Some ways to help with climate change and unite a community is composting. GrowNYC compost program, in collaboration with the NYC Sanitation Department, is facing budget cuts as of courtesy of Mayor Adams. Which will take effect in the new year. This decision jeopardizes our environment and community well-being. Grow NYC is collecting signatures to petition Mayor Adams to reconsider and save the compost program. 📝 Composting isn't just waste reduction; it's a powerful tool against climate change. By composting, we reduce landfill waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and enrich our soil. Community compost sites foster environmental stewardship and bring neighbors together for a common cause. The consequences of cutting the compost program are dentrimental which includes Increased landfill waste, higher carbon footprints, and a missed opportunity for community bonding.

My grandmother always had a bowl on her kitchen counter to collect food scraps. When I was a child, I didn’t think anything about this bowl, except perhaps how odd it was that she didn’t just do what most Americans do with their food scraps—toss them in a white plastic trash bag and leave them properly bagged to be taken to a landfill. For years, that’s what I did, I bagged all my trash, including the recyclables, and wheeled our giant bin to the curb every week (or my husband did). And then I remembered my grandma’s bowl of food scraps, and her daily, humble ritual of taking the scraps to the woods. That quiet practice was just one way she modeled for me and the rest of my cousins a sustainable life of simplicity and environmental stewardship. It took me forty years to do it, but now, I sort my recyclables and trash. I try to reduce the amount of stuff we send to the curb. I keep a container on my counter for food scraps, and I walk a similar path to our woods to dump the potato peels and eggshells into our compost heap. It’s possible that your children and grandchildren will just naturally pick up on your heart for creation, but why leave it to whimsy and fate? God seems intent on using us to bless the generations of family members that follow us—just look at the promises he made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David! We can be intentional about passing on a legacy of creation care and environmental stewardship to our kinfolk. Here are a few ways you can incorporate creation care into your legacy planning: #legacyplanning #legacybuilding https://lnkd.in/egkYJg5P

Are you ready to get your Christmas tree down 🎄 but you’re not sure what to do with it? We’ve got some top tips on what to do with your tree this January and none of it involves awkward trips to the local tip 💪. 🟢Most councils offer roadside pick-up or drop-off locations for Christmas trees. They'll usually chip the trees into mulch, which can be used in parks or gardens. 🟢Find a community tree recycling event. Many organisations host tree recycling events in early January. You can usually find information about local events on your local social media pages. 🟢Turn your tree into compost yourself. It will need chopping down and the needles can take time to breakdown, but you can successfully compost your own tree year on year. #zerowaste #netzero #green #sustainability

Happy Earth Day! We can all make an impact no matter how small the effort. Here are four examples of low-effort, but high-impact things you can do to help our Earth for Earth Day: Reduce Single-Use Plastics: • Switch to a reusable water bottle and coffee cup. • Use reusable bags when shopping. Conserve Water: • Fix leaky faucets and pipes. • Turn off the tap when brushing teeth. Reduce Energy Consumption: • Switch off lights when leaving a room. • Unplug chargers and appliances when not in use. Plant Trees: • Participate in community tree planting initiatives. • Support organizations that work to protect and preserve forests. These simple actions can collectively make a big difference in conserving our environment and making the Earth a better place to live.

Part 2 of our journey into circular living: Refuse. 🔄 Let's keep material out of landfills by saying no to what we don't need. Over 50% of what we buy in America goes to the dump. The best way to help create a greener planet is to not make waste in the first place. Stardust Nonprofit Building Supplies is helping Phoenix Arizona build a circular economy through reuse and deconstruction. Help Stardust and your community #StarveTheLandfill by saying no to what we don't need. (Thank you to James Cobb for creating this series of videos on the 9R's for Stardust!) #dontdemolishdeconstruct #CircularLiving #Refuse #ReduceReuseRecycle #sustainability #ecofriendly #sustainabledevelopment #reclaimedmaterials #climateaction #climate

🌿 One Year Ago Today: Reflecting on the Olugbede Market CleanUp Exercise 🌿 Hello #LinkedInCommunity, As I look back on this day exactly one year ago, I'm filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. I had the privilege of volunteering at the CleanUp initiative at Olugbede Market, Egbeda. 🧹🗑 ### 🎯 Why Olugbede Market? Olugbede Market is a bustling hub that serves as the backbone of the local community. However, like many busy markets, it faces challenges with waste management. The CleanUp initiative aimed to tackle this issue head-on. 🌱 ### ⏳ A Year Ago Today Armed with gloves, trash bags, and a strong sense of purpose, we set out to clean the market. The experience was eye-opening. We collected several bags of waste, but more importantly, we started conversations about sustainability and responsible waste disposal. 🌍 ### 🤝 Community Engagement What made this initiative truly special was the community involvement. Market vendors and local residents joined us in our efforts, turning the CleanUp into a community event. The day served as a reminder that when we come together, we can achieve great things. 💪 ### 🙏 Gratitude and Reflection I want to take a moment to thank everyone who was a part of this initiative. Your dedication has not only cleaned a market but also planted the seeds for a cleaner future. 🌳 ### 📣 The Journey Continues While we've made progress, there's still much work to be done. Let's continue to advocate for cleaner public spaces and responsible waste management. Whether you can volunteer your time or resources, every bit helps. 🔄 Looking back, I'm grateful for the experience and excited for what the future holds. Let's keep the momentum going! #CleanUpInitiative #OlugbedeMarket #Sustainability #CommunityService #Throwback #Volunteering
