Huge thank you to the Junior Achievement of Southern California team for hosting our DIY Girls participants and alumni at Finance Park yesterday, and a special shoutout to the wonderful group of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to lead our group through JA's financial literacy simulation!✨ Our group had a blast researching, budgeting, and shopping based on the scenarios – including income, marital status, and credit score – they were randomly assigned. Through this experience, our young participants and alumni got to experience firsthand what it takes to manage their own money and how personal situations can affect their budget. Learning about credit scores, loans, and banking helped our group feel less intimidated by budgeting and personal finances.🏦 Thank you, Junior Achievement of Southern California and LADWP, for helping us demystify personal finances and empower our participants and alumni to make smarter financial decisions! 🙌🏽 #FinancePark #LADWP #DIYGirls #LosAngeles #nonprofit #empowerment #FinancialLiteracy #KnowledgeIsPower

Our team spent the morning volunteering at the 20th Anniversary Power Women, Power Tools® build in San Fernando, hosted by Habitat for Humanity International LA and supported by City National Bank. We are so grateful for the incredible work Habitat LA is doing and thrilled to be a part of this transformative event. 🎨🔨 This year’s theme, “20 Years of CommUnity,” truly resonated with us as we joined 200 volunteers in repairing and beautifying homes for six local families. It was empowering to see female executives and leaders from diverse backgrounds come together to make a difference in our community. 💕 Thank you, Habitat LA, for organizing this uplifting annual event and for the opportunity to support and paint alongside such amazing women. Together, we’re building a stronger, more beautiful community! 🏡✨ #PowerWomenPowerTools #20YearsOfCommUnity #DIYGirls #HabitatLA #CommunityBuilding #WomenEmpowerment #DIYGirls #STEAMPowered

Our 2023-2024 San Fernando High School Invent Girls Program officially wrapped up on Wednesday!🙌🏽 To celebrate, they hosted a STEM Expo where they showcased their Digital Safes – an Arduino-based, personalized safe that features either a fingerprint scanner or RFID (tap card) locking mechanism – to an audience of loved ones, STEM professionals, and DIY Girls supporters. We are so proud of our students for committing themselves to the program, overcoming the challenges they faced as they went through the curriculum, embracing their creativity and ingenuity, and eloquently presenting the project they've been diligently working on over the last year. Thank you to their loved ones for encouraging them to continue participating in our program and to our supporters for helping us make our Invent Girls program possible!🌱 Making an impact in the lives of our students is a community effort, so we appreciate your partnership and support! Special shoutout to our four graduating seniors – Adanelly, Alexis, Cynthia, and Kimberly – for their dedication and accomplishments! All four of them will be going to college and intend to study Mechanical Engineering, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering, respectively.👩🏽🎓👩🏻🎓 We are so proud of them and look forward to seeing them grow into incredible, intelligent leaders! Their future is bright, and we look forward to continuing to be a resource for them as they navigate this new chapter in their young lives.✨ #DIYGirls #STEAMeducation #STEM #WomenInSTEM #Community #SiSePuede

Excited to highlight one of our amazing board members at DIY Girls: Jo Wright! 🌟 Jo is a seasoned videogame designer with 30 years of experience in the games industry. Currently, she serves as the Studio Line Director for Design at EA’s Ripple Effect Studios! Originally from the UK, Jo made the move to Los Angeles in 1999 for a job opportunity. Jo's journey in the gaming world started early. She was an avid game player as a child, starting with arcades and a Commodore Vic-20. She went to an all-girls school, where she was introduced to electronics in a supportive environment, and discovered that she loved building things with technology. At that time computers were relatively new, and she was dissuaded from her interest in them, but she persisted and pursued her passion. These formative experiences are part of why DIY Girls' mission is so important to her! In her role at EA's Ripple Effect Studios, Jo focuses on recruiting and nurturing diverse talent within the gaming industry. But her dedication doesn't stop there. In her free time, she actively works with DIY Girls to encourage more diversity into STEM careers. Jo's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and empowering the next generation of girls in STEM is truly inspiring. We're proud to have her on our board at DIY Girls! 🚀 #DiversityInTech #WomenInSTEM #DIYGirls #GameDesign #EA #RippleEffectStudios
