Students participating in the 2023-2024 U.S. Army eCYBERMISSION National Finals got the chance to learn about robotics, physics and STEM careers during a workshop held by GVSC with the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) Chantilly, Virginia late last month. For 22 years, GVSC has supported the eCybermssion competition through coaching, judging and outreach efforts; driving the next generation of scientists and engineers towards an interest in robotics and ground vehicle development. #ForgeTheFuture Army Futures Command

Ben Donovan, blue shirt, Military Legislative Assistant to Sen. Gary Peters from Michigan, spent several days at the Detroit Arsenal and Selfridge Air National Guard Base for a comprehensive understanding of our role in ground-breaking vehicle research, innovation, and technology. Innovation is the enabling force behind Army transformation. Soldiers and Army civilians employ promising new methods, devices, and research to conceptualize and develop solutions that will have outsized impacts on the nation’s future warfighting capabilities.

Garry Bishop, Deputy Director for Land and Expeditionary Warfare from the office of the Director for Operational Test & Evaluation, spent a couple days at the Detroit Arsenal and Selfridge Air National Guard Base learning more about our lab capabilities and how we continuously transform ground vehicle technology to help the Army be more adaptable and flexible. Our power and energy technologies, for example, provide warfighter benefits such as extending range mission duration, silent watch and silent mobility, while our survivability and protection experts are dedicated to the technologies and resulting capabilities that keep our formations on the battlefield and bring our warfighters home safely.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer stopped by our MDEX booth yesterday for a brief chat with Army leaders and to extend appreciation for our commitment to bringing new business opportunities to Michigan’s industrial base, which helps develop capabilities critical to supporting our warfighters. Shortly after, GVSC Director Mike Cadieux inked a CRADA deal with Lawrence Technological University President Tarek Sobh to establish a Defense Hardtech Accelerator led by Centrepolis, a program to collaborate on identifying innovations in ground vehicle technology and transfer development and manufacturing to industry. Innovation is the enabling force behind Army transformation. Through CRADAs, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, the Army continues to innovate and invest in emerging technologies while testing and developing pathways in new areas.

Yesterday at MDEX, scores of defense industry members attended the Detroit Arsenal roundtable to hear what senior leaders had to say about the challenges the Army faces in maintaining critical support for warfighters. They detailed how the industrial base in Michigan can help bring solutions and accelerate innovation. GVSC Director Mike Cadieux said human machine integrated formations, or HMIF for short, will bring robotic systems into units alongside Soldiers, allowing them to do what only humans can—make value-based decisions, accept risk and practice the art of command. Members of the industry community who would like to meet one-on-one with GVSC professionals, can sign up at our Army booth.

This week GVSC and its partners across industry, government and academia will come together for the 2024 Michigan Defense Expo at Macomb Community College, providing networking opportunities for Michigan’s defense community. Included this year are GVSC Briefings to Industry, informational sharing on our labs and capabilities. New and prospective partners to the Army can sign up at our booth for one-on-one meetings with GVSC leadership to learn how to enter a formal agreement with the Army on ground vehicle development.
