Yesterday was a very bittersweet day in the NGCV CFT as we bid farewell to two outstanding teammates. LTC Gary Flowers is moving on to a command assignment and MAJ Cory Wallace retired from the Army. LTC Flowers served as our AMPV and M10 requirements officer. MAJ Wallace was all things robots, all the time. Both were and are stellar examples of how an individual can make a big and very positive impact on the Army. Thank you for your service to our team, our soldiers and to our nation. This week we hosted our annual Industry Days, which brought together more than 300 automotive and defense ground vehicle industry developers, small business suppliers and innovators to learn more about what GVSC does to support our warfighters, and how industry partners can shape their services and products to align with the Army’s technology needs. Utilizing a variety of agreements, industry can leverage critical Army capabilities, facilities and the expertise of GVSC’s highly skilled workforce for mutual benefit, ultimately getting capabilities in Soldiers’ hands faster.
"Soldier-centric design" is at the core of how we conduct business at the NGCV CFT. There is no better source of truth for combat vehicles than the U.S. Soldier.
A squad of Soldiers from Fort Riley, Kansas, recently wrapped up a crucial two-week Soldier touchpoint (STP) on the Army’s XM30 Combat Vehicle program. The XM30 is a fighting vehicle that the Army will begin to field by the end of the decade, bringing new capabilities to the fight and transforming Armored Brigade Combat Teams. “The Soldier, specifically our infantry squads, will be the ones who are using the XM30 on the battlefield of tomorrow. It only makes sense to get their inputs on how the vehicle is designed,” said Brig. Gen. Geoffrey Norman, director Next Generation Combat Vehicles Cross Functional Team. The Soldier touchpoint included a number of practical drills, such as timing how long it took a team of Soldiers to dismount from various possible vehicle design configurations. It also included more nuanced discussions about access and placement of panels that provide exterior situation awareness for the Soldiers, and how the engine will be accessible for field-level maintenance.
