I had a great time at the inaugural NYC Founders N' Funders VC Reverse Pitch Event last week! 🎉 Thanks to Jeff Erickson, Dylan Scott and their team for organizing this event and to Capchase for hosting us. It was a fun experience being in the "hot seat," pitching Anthemis Group to such an inspiring group of founders. At Anthemis Group, we focus on investing in startups that are driving the transformation of financial services. We look for innovative companies that are reshaping finance through technology, with a particular interest in all things embedded finance. We invest from pre-seed to growth (Series B/C), so if you are a building an innovative company in this space at these stages, let's chat! Looking forward to more events like this and to continuing our mission of supporting visionary entrepreneurs! 🚀
It was a packed house at the inaugural NYC Founders N' Funders VC Reverse Pitch Event last night! 🏙️ We had a phenomenal group of startup founders there, along with 8 fantastic VCs who pitched, and several other venture investors also in attendance. Big shoutout to Dylan Scott who is running FNF New York and helped organize this event. First of many more to come! Also, special thanks to Ian Garrett, Daviana Caba, Maria A. Pereda Ehrlich and the team at Capchase for graciously hosting us in their offices in Manhattan! I loved seeing so many amazing connections resulting from this event in the big city! An hour after the event ended, people were still hanging out and connecting. We may have to start earlier, or end later for the next one. 😃 There is always so much going on in New York City, so we were initially a bit nervous to bring these events to NYC. We worried there wouldn't be enough interest or demand. But, thanks to the support of local influencers like Katie Dunn, Ariel Serber, Tori. Hanson and so many incredible people in the startup community here, we had nothing to worry about. We hit capacity for the event early in the week and ended up with a waitlist that was more than double our event capacity. Sorry to those of you who we were not able to accomodate. We were also worried that it would be difficult to find investors who would be willing to present. However, we had an overwhelming positive response from the VC community in NYC. We originally planned to have 5-7 VCs pitch, but ended up expanding it to 9 and had to sadly turn away some really great investors who said they would be willing to present. Here's who ended up pitching last night: 🔵 Kange Kaneene (Level Up Ventures) 🔵 Christina Zerka (Forum Ventures) 🔵 Brian Cashin (Teamworthy Ventures) 🔵 Nandini Agrawal (ff Venture Capital) --- BTW, ff = "founder friendly" - I had to ask Nandini and she was so kind in her response 🔵 Maurice Russo (Lerer Hippeau) 🔵 Greg Kotchick (SineWave Ventures) 🔵 Sherrise Pond (Anthemis Group) 🔵 Kay Makishi (Yasu Ventures) 🔵 Jess Schram (Remedy Product Studio) Creating this list, I just realized we had 6 female VCs and 3 male VCs --- This is AWESOME!!!! 🙌 It is typically the other way around in most cities where we've often struggled to find a good balance of female investors --- Way to go New York!!! 👏 I also want to give another shoutout to our awesome sponsors who stepped up to make this event happen in NYC! 💥 Capchase - (Ian Garrett) 💥 Carta - (Will Buckstaff) 💥 CAVU Securities, LLC (Chris McMillan) 💥 Optimist Legal (Omeed Tabiei, Esq.) 💥 Justworks (Mike Dunckley) 💥 Kintsugi (Ryan Connell) 💥 Lazo (Juan Manuel Barrero) Already looking forward to the next FNF event in NYC! 🗽 #NYC #FoundersNFunders #startups

❗ Yesterday, I read the following sentence in an insightful (yet concerning) article by Sarah Hinkfuss: "Looking at start-ups that raised venture funding since 2023, generative AI start-ups are 27% less likely to have a female CEO than the average funded start-up, and this has increased over time." 🤦♀️ 27% less likely to have a female CEO is a staggering statistic. And, as the article states, the problem with representation in generative AI is likely to compound existing gender disparity issues. If AI is the future, then where will women be in the creation of that future? 💪 Of course, this issue is not just about women - it's about ensuring that AI-based products and services don't favour one group of people in society, simply because they are the dominant group building such AI-based products and services. But, it is a question that needs to be asked more urgently and frequently amongst the VC community. 👩💻 As I was reading the article, I found myself wondering how many generative AI start-ups I knew that had a female founder. Coincidentally, I realised that I had actually had a coffee with a female founder building a AI start-up that very morning. It was an amusing and uplifting moment of realisation in light of some stark statistics. 🗣 I'm interested in speaking with anyone who is interested in how we tackle this issue. And obviously, if you are a woman who is building a generative AI start-up, we at Anthemis Group would be keen to speak with you.
Where are the Female Founders in Generative AI?

There is enormous potential for AI in the healthcare sector! That's why Elixirr is partnering with Anthemis Group (a leading Venture Capital firm) to host an AI-focused event for our Healthcare clients and network in London on July 3rd. The event is all about solving common challenges rather than just networking, and we're excited by the selection of expert speakers and broader attendees on our panel. It will include an expert panel discussion followed by exploratory breakout conversations to open up the dialogue. We've been working on a joint thesis with Anthemis on how companies could prioritise AI opportunities across the healthcare spectrum, and we'd love to share it with you. If any healthcare executives are interested in attending, please send me a direct message, and I'll arrange an invite.
