We are hosting a virtual early-onset dementia meeting for families to learn about the latest research in the field of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, get care and support resources and share insights and experiences. This is also an opportunity to learn about the Longitudinal Early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease Study (LEADS). As many as 200,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s in the U.S. under the age of 65 are living with the early-onset form of the disease. Through LEADS, there is hope that we can move toward a better understanding of younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease and those without Alzheimer’s can potentially participate in this important research. Registration is free. Please share the link with anyone that may be interested. bit.ly/3LdpJlN

The Longest Day Spotlight! We would like to recognize and thank Amy Covell-Murthy (she/her) and Erin Ward, the incredible duo behind the 8th Annual Flip Off Alzheimer's Pinball Tournament for The Longest Day. As a team, they've raised over $1,100. Amy's participation is especially meaningful as she honors her Grandma Bertie, who passed in January 2023 after living with dementia. For the past 8 years, Amy has participated in The Longest Day with her grandmother as her inspiration and continues to raise funds in her honor. To get involved with The Longest Day or support a team, visit alz.org/tld.

Breaking News: The FDA has granted approval of Kisunla (donanemab) for the treatment of people living with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease. We celebrate Kisunla’s approval as more options mean greater opportunity for more time. This is the third approval of an Alzheimer’s treatment that changes the underlying course of the disease. bit.ly/3XIyyvf

The Longest Day Spotlight! Dayna Brown SHRM-SCP’s fight against Alzheimer’s is personal. It's been 7 years since she lost her mother to Alzheimer's and 2 years since she lost her father to vascular dementia. Dayna rode 70 miles on the Montour Trail on June 22 to honor her parents and support all caregivers. She aims to raise $5,000 for The Longest Day. Her team, Miles on the Montour, has raised over $4,000 so far. We are thankful for her efforts in the fight to end Alzheimer’s and dementia.

We were proud to be a part of the NAACP Wilkes-Barre Branch #2306#2306 13th Annual Juneteenth Cookout! Our Program Outreach Manager, Katherine Kearney, attended the event and raised awareness. At the Alzheimer's Association, we believe that engaging diverse perspectives is critical to achieving health equity — ensuring all communities have a fair and just opportunity for early diagnosis and access to quality care.

Meet the Team! We're spotlighting Sara Murphy this week. Join us in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etkMyS8u 1. How long have you worked at the Alzheimer’s Association and what is your role? 14 years total with two different chapters! 8 years for the Greater PA Chapter and 6 years for the Mississippi Chapter. My role is Vice President-Programs and Services. 2. What motivated you to join the Alzheimer's Association? My Grandmother (Grammie Mae). She lost her battle with vascular dementia when I was in college. The physical and emotional toll from caregiving that I saw my father experience and the obstacles within the family dynamics of this disease ignited a fire in me. I wanted to learn as much as I could, but more importantly how to take action and find my purpose. With the motivation from my college advisor I volunteered with the Alzheimer's Association and experienced such meaningful connections from helping with what was known as the Memory Walk and eventually becoming a support group facilitator and educator. I had such a great volunteer experience that I thought to myself, "My dream job is to work for the Alzheimer's Association one day." And the rest is history...:) 3. What do you enjoy most about working for the Alzheimer’s Association? Mobilizing communities around our mission!! I am absolutely in awe everyday of the relentless work, passion and impact that our volunteers and community partners are making in their communities. I get to witness our volunteer leaders share their stories, motivate others to take action, make connections and lead the way in helping to build community solutions in a public health approach is exciting. Our organization is bold and are conveners and catalysts for changing how we address dementia and we ignite this in communities. The power of our volunteers and partnerships inspires me. Partners have challenged me in ways to think outside of the box and always do better and have been so impactful for me in my career. Bringing communities together around a public health issue like Alzheimer's disease is a movement. A purple movement. Continue reading in the comments below!
