We're heading into the final two weeks of STEPtember and the Zagga team members have been getting competitive with their steps. The team currently holding the title for most funds raised AND most steps are the 'Zagg Warriors'! But the individual team members who are challenging us all to keep up with them are Matthew Harper with the most steps and Eliza Murphy with the most funds raised! With high levels of autism and neurodiversity in STEM education, and the resulting social anxiety and lack of understanding of networking, many highly qualified students in STEM struggle after graduation and organizations like Aspiritech are needed... however, we need STEM employers and industries to also examine how prevalent autism and neurodivergence is in their workplaces too and how this population contributes to their success. The Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh was one of three nonprofits featured today by WTAE Hearst Pittsburgh in this video and article on the impact of #GivingTuesday https://lnkd.in/dYUF7a2y "A worldwide movement, Giving Tuesday, we've all just spent lots of money through shopping and now it's time to give back and thinking of organizations like ourselves as a nonprofit, it's so vital, to consider a donation," said Meredith Peterson, the executive director of the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh. "Providing free resources, support, connection opportunities, all of those things are needed. And we need your support to be able to do that and provide those types of things to our families." Peterson said her 15-year-old daughter has Down syndrome, so she understands firsthand the impact the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh can make on a family. "We are working directly with individuals with Down Syndrome, we're providing free programming with adaptive fitness, we have free yoga, we have cooking classes. We provide free resources," she said. "As a teenager with Down Syndrome, connecting with other people like her, you know, where she can take a cooking class and be surrounded by other individuals with Down Syndrome doing their thing. I have taken up the Steptember Challenge along with my team members Arun Kumar Ravindranath, Winnie S., and Magnus Bradley, a month-long initiative to raise funds and awareness for an incredible cause. The challenge involves walking 300,000 steps throughout September, and I'm thrilled to share that I'm already at 200,000 steps on the 10th day! At the age of 12, a child was involved in a 4-wheeler accident that resulted in fractures to the right hip and leg as well as injuries to the larynx, vocal cord, and spine. The patient's right leg is stiff and his left hand is unable to make a fist. Sometimes, back pain makes it impossible to tolerate sleep, and can't keep own's balance for more than 20 minutes. Some may call us an active bunch! 🍊🍐 Movement is often the topic of conversation at Prime and we love motivating each other to progress in our physical challenges! 🏃♂️💨 We know movement promotes positive thinking, so here are some ideas that have encouraged our team to keep moving: 👟 Group Strava: Sharing and supporting each other's activities boosts motivation and makes that dreaded morning run much more likely to happen! 🏸 Active Team Building: Our monthly racket days are full of fun, silly action shots and plenty of laughter! 💪 Charity Events: We participate in walks, half-marathons, and marathons to support Alzheimer's Society These events never fail to create a buzz in the office and simultaneously raise money for a fantastic cause.
