“These are absolutely transformational times.” New research reported today at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference suggests that, in the future, highly accurate blood tests could improve diagnosis in primary care, making testing more accessible and less invasive. They could also provide a quicker path to research participation and treatment. https://cnn.it/4di02w5

Today, we honored John and Crystal Beuerlein and Edward Jones with the Jerome H. Stone Philanthropy Award for Alzheimer’s Research at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference 2024. Since 2015, the Beuerleins have had a tremendous impact on Alzheimer’s research as philanthropic partners and leading Walk to End Alzheimer’s donors. As a former Edward Jones principal, John served as a catalyst for the firm’s strategic alliance with the Alzheimer’s Association. To date, Edward Jones has raised more than $45 million for the fight to end Alzheimer’s and have pledged to raise $50 million by the end of 2025. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dhQyRG. #AAIC24

In a large research study, reported for the first time at #AAIC24 and partially funded by the Association, blood tests 🩸 did a better job of accurately detecting Alzheimer's than primary care doctors and specialists who were using traditional diagnostic methods. The test was around 90% accurate in identifying Alzheimer’s in patients with cognitive symptoms at primary care and specialized memory care clinics compared to 63% and 73% accuracy when not using the test. Why this is exciting: Highly accurate blood tests could drastically reduce the time it takes to get a diagnosis, as well as accelerate access to new treatments.
