Dear Skålleagues: Permit me to introduce myself, I am Andrés Omar Hayes, a proud member of Skal International Greater Washington, D.C., for more than a decade. I currently serve as Skål International Director from Region 1. Since becoming a member of Skål International in 2013, I have been thrilled to see how the organization and our industry have continued to survive, thrive, and transition in a post-pandemic world. It is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for the role of Skål International Vice President/President-elect 2026. As Skål enters its 90th year as the only organization that brings together the entire tourism industry and promotes friendship, business, and tourism worldwide, I am delighted to run for office and pledge my support to respond to the unique challenges our industry faces in strategic ways that align with Skål’s stated mission and vision. I am looking forward to continuing being an advocate for you as a member and for your club, and to position Skål International as the key organization that serves as the voice of Hospitality and Tourism. Last Thursday, the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) World Congress in Berlin, Airtifae Group hosted a session focusing on the startup ecosystem in Berlin. We were honored to have Norbert Herrmann, Head of Startup Affairs, in the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises, provide a presentation on the history of the startup ecosystem in Berlin, how and why it is thriving today, and what Berlin's city government is doing to support entrepreneurs and help them grow even more. This presentation was followed by a fireside chat, where we discussed "Why Berlin", industry sectors of focus in the city, international partnerships and leaders, and more.

On June 27, I had the honor of speaking at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, celebrating Micro-, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day. On April 6, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing the crucial role Micro-, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) play in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Resolution (A/71/279) designates June 27 as “Micro-, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day”. In this session, I discussed the importance of supporting MSME's in their growth and international expansion, mentorship, and advocacy for women entrepreneurs. While discussing these important topics, I had the opportunity to also share about the work of Airtifae Group and how we support MSMEs, as well as my past entrepreneurial ventures and work in DC Government attracting FDI to Washington, DC and helping our local SMEs expand internationally. Lastly I talked about the importance of the hospitality and tourism in today’s economy and explained why is important to belong to an organization like Skål International Official . Thank you to the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) and Ayman El Tarabishy for allowing me the opportunity to discuss these topics on such an important day.

After London Tech Week, I had a brief visit to Cape Town, South Africa to meet with partners across the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as economic development leaders to discuss future areas for collaboration. I also had the opportunity to meet up with Skalleagues in Cape Town by attending a Skal International Cape Town lunch at D'Aria Winery and provide remarks about the new Skål International Official governance structure as a guest speaker. A special thanks for the Executive Board of the club and it’s members for welcoming with open arms and most importantly to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. During the luncheon, I presented to Skal International Membre d’ Honneur Anne Lamb and Carol Bayne, commemorative pins in celebration of their 40th year anniversary of being Skal International Members.
