I have made no secret that Will is one of my favorite male characters with his 6'3" height, lean body, three-piece suits, dyslexia, and as the proud owner of Betty (his Chihuahua dog).
What is not to like?
Now back to what the novel is about....
After That Night brings more heartache for Sara Linton. If you follow this series, you know that Sara is currently Will's fiancee and that about 15 years ago, she was raped at Grady's while she was a resident. This event changed her future. Instead of becoming a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon, she moved back home and joined the local pediatrician.
A few years back, she moved back to Atlanta after another shocking event in her life, and during one of her ER shifts, she tried to save the life of a young woman, Dani Cooper, who had been brutally attacked. Before dying, Dani whispered that she was raped. Only Sara heard her. At present, Sara is testifying about the case fulfilling the promise she made to Dani and herself that she was going to do anything to make the man who attacked her pay.
To her surprise, the attacker's mother tells Sara that her rape and the attack on Dani are all linked!
"Don't you remember the mixer?"
This statement will shock her to her core and will make Will and his partner Faith Mitchell, start their own investigation into the matter before presenting the case to Amanda, their boss.
A lot of intrigue in this one as well as women's violence although not as graphic as other books I read by her.
I liked how solid Will and Sara have become as a couple. Also, how Will has learned how to engage with Faith. He knows when she needs time or when he needs to press for her to open up.
Was I shocked by the ending? Nope, not at all. The clues were all there.
I can't wait for the next book. Probably a murder during Sara and Will's wedding. One can only hope...
In one, we meet Peyote Trip. He works on the fifth floor of Hell. MeaA story with a different type of Hell.
There are two main storylines on Sigh Here.
In one, we meet Peyote Trip. He works on the fifth floor of Hell. Meaning he has survived the worst. Now, he is one of those guys that offered you an out when things are bad as long as you sign your soul on the dotted line. He enjoys his trips to earth to get his marks. Pey has in his sights a big target: the Harrison family. Peyote needs a fifth-generation member to sign the contract and he knows he is close to achieving it when a new employee lands on fifth with him. Her name is Calamity and despite him knowing better, he can't seem to stop from wanting to help her.
The second storyline involves the Harrisons. There is Silas who is a teacher and who tries to be a good father. His wife Lily is having an affair. His son Sean seems to be a recluse always watching video games and then there is his young daughter, Mickey who is being bullied at school until popular and beautiful Rose decides to friend her. Next thing you know, Rose is being invited to their summer home in New Hampshire for their yearly vacation. This is the property where almost two decades ago Silas' brother, Phil killed Sarah, a seventeen-year-old girl.
I liked both timelines. I wanted Peyote to get his fifth generation for sure. None of the Harrisons were very likable yet I started to care for them. Well maybe not all of them, since Silas was kind of creepy around Ruth.

Olivia: she is egocentric and will do anything to be on top. She has waited years to help destroyed Shannon now that she is down on her luck.
Shannon: once the most powerful woman in town, married to Bryce, the rich politician until her marriage falls apart and he leaves her for a younger woman whom he marries.
Crystal: a young woman from Texas and now the wife of Bryce.
Karen: a very successful real state agent. She is married to a successful plastic surgeon and has a small child.
Jenny: the owner of Glow. The IT beauty salon. The place where these women backstab each other, drink champagne and tell their secrets intend it or not.
I had so much fun listening/reading this one. The women were catty, spoiled, and plastic but entertaining nonetheless. The audio narrators Andi Arndt, Hillary Huber, Elizabeth Evans, Brittany Pressley, and Cassandra Campbell did a wonderful job at fleshing out these women for me. I will say Jenny was my favorite since she was the most down-to-earth person in the group. I did root for almost all of them through the book.
After finishing listening to this guilty pleasure, I know I will read Jeneva Rose's next book.

Heather met Stephen Aston when she was hired to redesign his home. The first day she meets Stephen and his wife Pam she realizes Pam is not all there. Pam has advanced dementia and a few months later, Stephen makes the tough call to put her in a nursing home. The more time Heather spends with him the more she likes him. Without realizing it, she falls for him. Then they become an item and Stephen proposes. Just one little detail, he is still married to Pam.
As for Stephen's two daughters, Tully and Rachel both love their parents and they visit their mom at the nursing home regularly. The daughters have kept secrets from each other and their parents. Tully steals things she doesn't need and her husband made a bad investment and she is losing her home while Rachel stopped dating when she was sixteen and now binge eats under stress. Their lives become more chaotic when their father makes them meet Heather who is actually younger than them. They can't believe their dad is divorcing their mother and getting remarried!
To makes matter worse, Pam starts saying things about their father that don't make sense. Is what Pam is saying true or is it her dementia that is causing her behavior?
I want to recommend the audio version. You have to listen to it! It's so well done. The book is narrated by Barrie Kreinik, Caroline Lee, Jessica Douglas-Henry and Zoe Carides. I couldn't stop myself from doing one more chapter despite arriving at my destination. The voices of Tully, Rachel, and Heather were perfectly accomplished. I believe the way they were portrayed made me like them more. On paper, I don't think I would have liked Tully that much but with the audio, I did.
I enjoyed The Younger Wife despite the ending being a little vague.
Would I read her next book? Heck yeah!

How cool would it be to see these characters come to life?
After hearing so many good things about this book from Jayme, Holly, and Christina (to name a few), I had a huge FOMO. I knew I had to read Look Closer.
I can honestly say that I found it to be addicting. I listened to the audible every waking moment I had when I was not working and finished it in record time.
The characters were intriguing and I was rooting for Simon and Vicky Dobias almost from the very beginning. Yes, neither was perfect but I liked them individually. The other two characters that had a POV were Christian Newsome who is a financial advisor and Jane, the detective in charge of the investigation.
The murder of Lauren Betancourt was committed on Halloween night and maybe one of the main characters was the killer.
That is it. My lips are sealed in regards to any more details. I had none when I started it and I believe this is the way to go to get the most out of it.
Deception, intrigue, vengeance, revenge, and cleverness were all pieces that made this puzzle, one to be remembered.
I was disappointed with this one. Not in the writing style but with the outcome of the plot.

I was disappointed with this one. Not in the writing style but with the outcome of the plot.
I would say the pace at the beginning of the book was slow and as I got to know the characters, it was hard for me to like any of them.
The book begins with Cassie. She is in New Haven when she gets a call from her brother Nate. Their younger sibling, Billy has been accused of raping his ex-girlfriend. Her parents Lawrence and Eleanor are doing damage control. Lawrence is trying to find a lawyer and Eleanor is controlling the press. It doesn't help that Billy is a jock, white and privileged. The Quinns are worth over 700 million so when the press gets a whiff of the accusation against Billy, their lives are going to become a circus.
As the book progresses we learn more about them and the secrets they are keeping.
This courtroom drama didn't do it for me. There were some things that disgusted me which is probably why I didn't like the characters. The main twist, I was able to guess so even the shock value was missing for me. I know a lot of my friends have loved it so check out their reviews too.
I do want to mention that Marin Ireland did an amazing job with the audio narration.

Like most of his other books in the Prey series, Sandford gives you the killer early on. So we know who had done it but This one has a great build-up.
Like most of his other books in the Prey series, Sandford gives you the killer early on. So we know who had done it but Lucas has to connect all the dots in order to get to them before they kill again and by the end of Field of Prey, it is personal to Lucas.
The book begins with a couple of teenagers finding an area with a strong smell of death. The next day, the guy returns with a cop friend and they find a body. Soon where there was one, there are multiple dead women. The media finds out and the Black Hole Killer becomes the priority.
At first, Lucas is not completely involved but when another investigator is murdered, Lucas goes in 100%. In order to find the killers, he teams up with a local cop, Catrin Mattson who knows Virgil. It's a good combination.
The last part of Field of Prey has plenty of violence. It had my poor heart hammering. Time was running out for the next victim and Lucas needed to hurry up in a big way.
As always, I love the audio. Mr. Ferrone does a wonderful job at understanding and manifesting Lucas. I don't think I could listen to a book without his voice. He is Lucas to me.
I ended up liking Catrin a lot and I hope I can see her in other books. She deserves to be back.
I'm slowly catching up on this series and I already know that I will start the Virgil Flowers books next. If someone is a match for Lucas's personality, is Virgil.
Field of Prey is a winner. Between the humor, the sense of danger, and the amazing characterization, there is no way I wouldn't enjoy it.

Vince Taylor had everything. He is the CEO of Kitztech, a successful tech company responsible for famous apps. He is married to his beautiful and lovely wife, Nicole. Then a new intern, Layla begins working for his company. He becomes entangled with Layla and when he decides to break things up with her, she is found dead in Central Park. Cause of death: blunt head trauma.
The cops, Detective Allison Barnes and detective Jack Lanner come knocking asking questions and all clues point to Vince as the prime suspect. They just have to prove it.
I did not feel any empathy toward Vince. After all, he had a good life and decided to throw it all away by cheating. He made his bed and now he had to lay in it. I wanted detective Barnes to get him for his lies. His wife deserved better!
Stephanie DeCarolis's debut novel was told from multiple POVs and had different timelines. The Guilty Husband was a fast-paced, addicting suspense novel that had me listening whenever I could. I do have to admit that I knew the ending from the very beginning but despite guessing it, I enjoyed the deliverance.

If you know me, you know I don't like cliffhangers but this one was a masterful one. Thankfully, luck is on my side and the last book is already out so with one click, I will know what is next for this couple. However, before I go there, let me tell you what I think about the Wicked King.
When the Wicked King begins, five months have already passed. Jude's time as a seneschal is running out. She needs to obtain a new bargain from Cardan before it is too late. Yet, there are other pressing things happening. Queen Orlagh from the Undersea is ready for battle. Jude believes she has created an alliance with Cardan's brother, Balekin despite him being in prison and she's sure her brother Oak's life is in grave danger. She is ready to protect Cardan, the crown, and Oak in every way possible with the help of the Court of Shadows. But can she?
I thought The Wicked King was superb. I love the fights, the betrayals, the scheming, the twists.
I also love to hate the baddies like Madoc, Queen Orlagh, Locke, and Balekin.
The court of Shadows which included Ghost, Roach, and the Bomb have all become an important part of the storyline and I was upset with one of the twists despite expecting it.

This novel is disturbing in the right kind of way. No one says motherhood is easy. We all know it is not. But giving birth to a child who doesn't love you and might be evil is not something that is spoken about or thought about. After all, babies are cute and sweet. Or are they? Some might say they are very hard work with the sleepless nights, the tantrums, the teething, the terrible twos but how about the complete emotional disconnection with one parent. Is it possible?
The main character is Blythe. She came from a line of women who failed at being mothers. Either from depression or just a lack of maternal instinct or a mixture of both. She tells us a story of how she met the man she fell in love and after marrying him, he started pushing her to get pregnant. Blythe is not sure she wants to be a mother but she knows she wants to make her husband happy.
Once the baby comes, nothing goes the right way. Little by little, Blythe starts to believe that Violet, her daughter, has something wrong with her. She's calculating, manipulative and cold. Violet only has eyes for her father. While he is home, she's a perfect angel but when she is alone with Blythe there is never peace. Is Violet evil or is Blythe suffering from post-partum depression/psychosis?
Chilling with its frankness, The Push is a novel that I will never forget.

Too Good To Be True was a page-turner suspense with a great twist that I did not see coming. I actually had an "Oh wow" moment.
Skye Starling is a young woman who is working as an editor. She is also a very rich woman. She has a trust that would make anyone more than comfortable in life. Yet, even though it looks like she has everything or she could buy it if she wanted to, she is unlucky in love. She has OCD and is unable to stop her compulsions of knocking on all pieces of wood or kissing clocks. So the men she has met so far, fall short 100%. Some of them total losers for sure. And then, Skye meets Burke Michaels.
Burke is a man in his forties. He looks like a successful businessman who is also handsome and interesting. He is a recovering addict who doesn't hide it. Burke doesn't care about Skye's compulsions. He understands her. There is of course one tiny problem. He is already married!!!
I think that in order to get the maximum enjoyment of Too Good To Be True, is to not read the blurb. It has way too much information and since I went in blind, I had a blast reading it.
Skye had all my sympathy. Dealing with a debilitating OCD is hard. Her meds were not completely useful but at least her therapist was a great one.
I won't comment on Burke because I don't want to give out any spoilers. Just know my friends that you might want to have an open mind about the ending.

Pretty Little Wife had two excellent female characters. The cool aloof Lila Ridgefield and perseverant Ginny, the detective investigating her.
Lila becomes the center of an investigation when her husband goes missing. Lila learned something terrible about Aaron, her husband, just a few weeks before he disappeared. Did she kill him and if she did, why?
In addition, through a popular podcast, a total of three women have disappeared in the area. Are the cases connected?
Really loved reading Pretty Little Wife. From the first chapter, I could tell, I was going to enjoy it. I rooted for Lila from the getgo. From the outside, she was a mixture of a trophy wife and a Stepford wife. She was beautiful, always dressed well, she seemed untouchable. Yet, on the inside, she was a mess. She suffered from anxiety and possible PTSD.
Ginny was great too. She could read Lila when no one else could. She knew Lila was hiding something and she wanted to know what it was.
I also like Tobias, Lila's only friend and also a lawyer.
The ending is wrapped a little too well but no harm done.

Was the premise a good one? Absolutely. Twins (mirror twins) almost conjoined twins if they had stayed a little longer in the womb: Summer and Iris are the main topic of discussion.
Summer with all her perfect body and Iris with her dextrocardia and other organs on her right side instead of her left.
Summer, the sweet perfect twin while Iris, full of envy and freaky-how-I-imitate-my twin behavior.
Summer with the perfect husband, Adam. Iris with a failed marriage to Noah.
Then, of course, there is the money. The twins' father's revealed a bomb when the girls were just teenagers. Whoever delivers a new child after they marry will be the sole proprietor of the Carmichael fortune. Unfortunately, the twins are not the only ones that can inherit. They have stepsiblings and their brother to compete for it.
__
Poor Iris. She never got a chance. What the heck Ben, you couldn't tell them apart? Moron. And poor Ester, you know Summer is going to find a way to get rid of her.
Did I guess the twists? Yes, from the beginning. I knew Summer was alive and not pregnant. I also guessed that Adam was in on it. I knew they wanted Iris's baby but I was hoping Summer wouldn't get away with it.
Iris had all this growth as a person, as a daughter, as a stepmother, and as a mother. Why let her die?
Summer had no growth just plain evil. A psychopath dreaming of crocodiles killing her victims.
Was the book a good one?
Oh yeah, the suspense was killing me. It was a race to answer the one question I had. Was Iris going to be a victim or a survivor?
Adam you conniving bastard with your freaky sex! What an arse! Hope Summer kills you too.
Do I feel strongly about the emotions The Girl in the Mirror brought out in me?
Yep, I had many.
I will read anything Rose Carlyle writes from now on.

Well, That Was Fun! It had one hell of a twist!
A page-turner for sure. Beware that if you are like me, once you start this thriller, you won't be able to put it away. So don't start it at night unless you are ok with having many sleepless hours ahead of you.
The beginning was so sad. A mother, Molly Clarke, is immersed in grief after the loss of her child five years earlier. Her daughter was killed by a car. A car Molly was driving.
How awful it had to be, to be the one who took her life? A life full of promise that will never materialize. Of course, Molly blames herself and she thinks her remaining two children, Nicole and Evan, and her husband, John, blame her too. Her home life imploded after the accident and no amount of counseling was able to help them. Each is suffering and acting out in their own way.
After having a horrible day and driving at night during a storm, Molly stops for gas, and then she disappears. A couple of days after her mysterious disappearance, a letter is found in a hotel room. In it, Molly writes that she doesn't want to be found. To please don't look for her.
Nicole can't believe her mother would walk away from them. She believes foul play may be at hand and when she gets a new lead pointing her to the town of Hastings, she knows she has to find out the truth. As horrible as it may be.
Wendy Walker knows how to write a good story. I empathized with both Molly and Nic's characters. They were both in so much pain. The accident was devastating. No wonder the whole family was so lost.
Don't Look for Me had a very creepy feeling almost to the end. It was perfect for an October read.

Oh my Gosh!! A new Will Trent novel <3.
Will is one of my favorite male characters. He is so broken and so smart at the same time.
Surprisingly, I adored Sara Linton too. In general, we tend to be harder on the female characters. Thinking things like "she is making the wrong choice", "she is putting herself in danger unnecessarily", "she is acting mean for no reason" or maybe it's just me that expects to read more about smarter, interesting and powerful women characters. Luckily, I never have to complain about Sara. She is perfect for Will. She makes him more confident and even though it takes him a while to open up, she gets him to do it. Also, her own traumas and the way she has handled herself through all of it, makes me respect her. Or maybe because she is a doc is why I like her so much. Who knows, it may be all of it.
Getting back to The Silent Wife, Karin Slaughter wields her magic wand and we get to be back in Grant County, with a younger Sara and Grant County's Chief officer, Jeffrey Tolliver.
How you might ask? simple a serial killer.
At the beginning of the book, a prison riot brings the GBI to investigate. While gathering information, an inmate, Daryl Nesbit, wants to talk to Will and Faith. He says he is innocent of a crime and he has the proof. Women have gone missing after he was put in prison and he blames Jeffrey and Lena Adams for letting the serial killer run free.
By several POV's and by intercalating past and present chapters, we get a bigger picture of what truly happened. The identity of the serial killer was shocking but maybe not too much. It all made sense.
Karin's writing is always raw and gritty. True evil is out there in the world and she knows how to bring it into her fictional world in a masterful way.
In regards to the characters, I already drooled over Will and Sara at the beginning of my review, so I will say that Faith is another strong female character. Being in her head is always entertaining and I do love her relationship with Will as a partner and as his friend. Amanda as their boss is the cherry on top. She seems to be one step ahead of everyone every single time. I know the majority of readers love Jeffrey. I'm in the minority. I was never a Jeffrey fan. I thought Sara deserved better. However, he annoyed me very little in this one.
One thing I want to make clear in case I haven't done it in my prior reviews is that I HATE Lena. I hope she gets what she deserves. She is a horrible person and doesn't learn from her mistakes. Really sad for her husband.

"all it took was a lollipop, a santa suit and 4 minutes,"
Holy smokes. Great twist at 80%!
Little Secrets was interesting and it got quite superb at the 80% mark with a fabulous twist.
The book begins with a mom, Marin Machado and her son Sebastian shopping at Christmastime. Then, she gets distracted with a cellphone call and the next thing she knows, Sebastian is gone. Marin realizes that for just a few minutes, she let go of his small hand while she was talking to her husband, Derek. She becomes frantic when she realizes she can’t see him anymore. She starts screaming and asking for help. Soon, someone calls 911 and the police arrive to help. Later on, both parents can see the video surveillance camera and they can see their young son, Bash leaving with Santa Claus and both disappearing into the parking lot.
After a few months, mom hires a private detective to look into his disappearance. A year later, she gets a call to meet with the PI and to her surprise, it's to tell her that her husband is having an affair. with a young woman by the name of Kenzie. An affair that has been ongoing for the last six months. After the meeting, she's ready to do the unthinkable. She asks her best friend (and ex-lover) Sal to help her. She wants to get rid of the other woman. A woman who's trying to take something else from her. Then, just when things start happening, she realizes this other woman might know what happened to her son.
The story is told from a dual POV. Marin and Kenzie both have a voice.
Little Secrets was a really interesting novel which deals with the grief a mother feels after the loss of her child. It demonstrates how a support group might help and how wrong decisions can be made after such a terrible loss. I understood why she thought about hurting the other woman but I think she should’ve been mad with the right person which was her husband instead.
The conclusion left me satisfied with most of the actions.

Excellent thriller!
By far, this one is my favorite book in this series. It has non-stop action. The psycho was a very disturbed monster who gave Lucas a run for his money.
In Mind Prey, Deputy Chief Lucas Davenport is assigned to the abduction of Andi Mannette and her two daughters, Genevieve and Grace.
Andi Manette comes from money, she's also married to money. Her husband George Dunn is rich and powerful and so is her father, Tower Manette. Andi is a prominent psychiatrist who shares a practice with Dr. Nancy Wolfe. When Andi and her daughters are taken after a conference at the girls' school, the abduction becomes a high profile case and Lucas is called in to help solve it.
The perpetrator is all types of crazy. John Mail is a violent man who’s obsessed with Andi. Andi treated him when he was twelve and she sent him away. He never forgot her and became obsessed with her. When he gets the chance at having her, he doesn't think twice.
John is a gamer and he has played Lucas's games. He knows who Lucas is and he believes he's playing a game with Lucas and Lucas is losing since he has the women and Lucas can't find him. Taunting Lucas and calling him on a regular basis is making the game even better.
As a subplot, Lucas is thinking about proposing to Weather Karkinnen, his girlfriend. He carries the engagement ring with him all over the place. He plays with it without realizing it. He's still unsure if he wants to commit or not.
Mind Prey was a sick book. John was a rapist, a sadist, a monster. He was hateful and I wanted nothing more than for Lucas to find him and shoot him dead.
I was satisfied with the ending and the twists. Also, with the resolution of the subplot.

After reading the wonderful debut novel, The Silent Patient, I knew I would want to read the next book by Alex Michaelides.
The Maidens is set in the University of Cambridge and the disappearance of a young woman whose body is found later.
Mariana Andros is a psychotherapist. She is a widow and she's still grieving the loss of her husband, Sebastian. A man she adored and who brought her the love she was missing under her father's care. She is successful at her job as a group therapist. She leaves her job when her niece, Zoe calls her from Cambridge University where she is a student. Her friend Tara has disappeared and before she disappeared, she told Zoe she was afraid of Professor Edward Fosca. He was going to kill her!
Fosca is the professor everyone wants to attend class and listen to and his classes always end with resounding applause. Fosca has a group of students he meets regularly with. They are all young women who go by the name of The Maidens. Tara was part of this group. Despite Zoe's claims and Mariana's growing suspicions, he has an alibi, The Maidens. They say he was with them. But are they covering up for him?
Mariana was a student at Cambridge herself. She met Sebastian there too. For her, coming back is painful but she knows she can't let Zoe be alone. Investigating the murder and trying to catch a killer before some else gets hurts becomes paramount.
I felt The Maidens had a slow start but it had a partial great twist at the end. One I did not see it coming. I enjoyed the crossover with Mariana interacting with Theo from the Silent Patient too. Some of the greek mythology felt redundant but maybe it's because I knew about Persephone from my teenage years.
