''They took all the trees, and put 'em in a tree museum...'' - Joni Mitchell.

This scene reminded me of the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi.

Unapologetically so - sometimes, it just has to be done. The well-known oak tree at Millarochy on the shores of Loch Lomond.

For "Looking close... on Friday!" ; theme : "tree bark".

the long shot (often used as an establishing shot),

the full shot,

the medium shot,

the close-up.

Three less often used field sizes (see gallery below) are:

the extreme long shot (used for epic views and panoramas),

the American shot (also 3/4 shot), a slight variation of the medium shot to also include OWB handgun holsters in Western movies, a characterization from French film criticism for a type of shot in certain American films of the 1930s and 1940s also referred to as a "Cowboy shot" in reference to the gun holster being just above the bottom frame line,

the "Italian shot" or Extreme Close Up (ECU or XCU), where only a person's eyes are visible, named after the genre of Italo-Westerns, particularly the Dollars Trilogy by Sergio Leone, that established this particular field size.

Nothing too special about the photo, but remembering seeing these trees for the first time in person, rather than in a paining -still haunts me to this day!

The starkness of the hilltop is perforated by isolated trees and crowned with a fence.

Saw this interesting tree growing arms or roots or whatever across the ground away from the trunk and towards the water below.

365 (Day 335) 5-31-08 - WHICH STYLE DO YOU LIKE THE BEST (MISTY OR CHOPPING TREES ?) I couldn't decide which photo I liked the best. When I came home today my husband was out in the yard trimming out front yard tree. Before it was trimmed you couldn't really see the front of the house. Our back yard really needs it as well but that will have to be professionally done because they are way too big and over grown.
