A cold February on the sunshine coast of British Columbia, north of Vancouver. The crows were unhappy about the presence of this owl, which is how I came to notice it, resting in the shade during the day. This is the adult pacific coloring.
I heard one of the owls while walking the dog, but I was able to find both of them upon investigation. I put the dog in Mom Pearson's home and grabbed my camera. One was tolerant, and allowed me to get a close up. The other one was noisy, trying to warn me off or to get its mate to move, and it kept moving from tree to tree, staying in the shadows. I finally got a picture of it, though.

Here is another one from last year. I was really excited when I walked up and seen this little Owl catching some sun hanging outside this wood duck box. I wish I could of got its ears in the sunlight but I was still excited non the less! It was the first Screech Owl I had ever seen.
Finally, I have a much long awaited break from work. I have the next 9 out of 11 days off!!
Barred Owls are native to the East Coast, and one of easiest owls to see during the daytime. Recently they have expanded their range to the West Coast where they are displacing the native, endangered Spotted Owls. Mead Garden, Winter Park, Florida
The owls at Muncaster are rescued birds that can't be released back into the wild. Although in captivity, they do have plenty of room to fly and lead happy lives. This is a Great grey owl, taking in the day.
