Description

The Erasmus+ Programme aims to boost skills and employability, as well as modernising Education, Training, and Youth work. Erasmus+ provides opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad.

Erasmus+ supports transnational partnerships among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organisations to foster cooperation and bridge the worlds of Education and work in order to tackle the skills gaps facing Europe. It supports national efforts to modernise Education, Training, and Youth systems. In the field of Sport, there will be support for grassroots projects and cross-border challenges such as combating match-fixing, doping, violence and racism.

Objectives

Education is one of the core objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Among the head targets set for the year 2020 is reducing the rates of early school leaving below 10 % and at least 40% of 30 – 34 years olds completing third level education.

The Programme supports the following three key actions:

  • Learning mobiliy of individuals
  • Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices
  • Support for policy reform

Structure

Erasmus+ brings together seven existing EU programmes in the fields of Education, Training, and Youth; it will for the first time provide support for Sport.

Total EU budget

The financial envelope for the period 2014-2020 is EUR 14.7 billion.

EEA Status

The Regulation establishing the Erasmus+ Programme was incorporated into the EEA Agreement on 16 May 2014, foreseeing participation from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
