Yogi Tea Bags Recalled Due to Pesticide Residue

East West Tea Company, LLC recently issued a recall on 54,846 boxes of Yogi tea bags distributed nationwide. According to a Food & Drug Administration (FDA) report, this is because of “pesticide residues… detected above action levels.”

The recalled items are 16-count boxes of Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support tea bags. If you have this product, check the box for UPC 0 76950 45010 3. Or, check the left side of the box (next to the Best By date) for one of the following lot codes:

Neither East West Tea Company nor the FDA have issued a full press release for this recall, and there is no guarantee stores will accept the item for refund or replacement. If you find that your product’s information matches the above UPC and/or lot codes, your best bet is to discard it immediately.

No information has been released on which specific chemicals exceeded action levels, a term used to describe acceptable levels of contamination. However, the FDA assigned this recall a “Class III” classification to say that drinking the tea is not likely to cause adverse health consequences. There have also been no reports of illness made in relation to this recall.
