I Swear By This Dupe of Supergoop's Unseen Sunscreen—and It's 75% Less Expensive

I just found my new summer go-to.

There’s no mercy when it comes to the blistering rays of the summer sun. That’s why it’s especially important to regularly apply sunscreen to your exposed skin while outdoors this season. Avoiding sunburn—and worse, sun poisoning—is key for not only feeling your best, but for keeping your skin healthy.

This summer, I have already spent a fair amount of time outside, from sunny boat rides to reading on the beach. And let me tell you, I have my brand-new bottle of sunscreen to thank for no burns and glowing skin. Take a guess, but hint: it’s budget-friendly when compared to leading brands, and it’s not a name brand.

Meet Kroger’s store-brand Invisible Gel Sunscreen. The SPF 40 squeeze bottle is marketed as a direct dupe of Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen for many reasons. The comparable clear formula uses the same active ingredients, and Kroger’s sunscreen even uses a higher concentration of octocrylene, which helps moisturize the skin. Like Supergoop, it’s free of parabens, octinoxate and oxybenzone, so it’s a reef-conscious option for the beach and ocean.

Kroger’s sunscreen also has benefits that Supergoop lacks. It’s water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, which is twice the amount of time its competitor claims. And the biggest difference between these products is how your wallet will feel after purchasing them. While Supergoops 2.5-ounce product retails for a whopping $48, Kroger’s version is more than 75% less, with a price tag of $11.49 per 3-ounce bottle.

As someone with sensitive skin from chronic inflammation, I’m always hesitant to try something new. But Kroger’s product is moisturizing, is fragrance-free and protects my skin for hours. If you’re shopping for a sunscreen that you’ll look forward to applying (and reapplying!), I highly recommend this product.

If you don’t live near the regional chain, you can buy Kroger’s sunscreen online. Or try out Trader Joe’s Supergoop dupe that’s now available on Amazon. Either way, you’ll be saving money and protecting your skin from harmful rays—what more could you ask for? Alongside sunscreen, be sure to stay hydrated this summer while you’re in the heat. Try drinks like our Watermelon Basil Agua-Fresca or Cucumber-Mint Spritzer to cool you down.
