Whenever Jennifer Garner gives Ina Garten a deserved shoutout in her Pretend Cooking Show Instagram series, it makes our hearts full. So we were fully beaming when we saw the Barefoot Contessa make a surprise appearance alongside Garner in her latest installment.

“My own personal cooking fairy just showed up!” Garner exclaimed at Garten’s appearance in the recent Instagram post.

Together, the duo made Garten’s own recipe for Cacio e Pepe Scrambled Eggs, and they’re really quick and easy. Here’s how to re-create the dish.

Garner quarters the recipe in the video, but from Garten’s Go-To Dinners cookbook, here are the listed ingredients you will need to whip up these peppery eggs:

  • 12 extra-large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ⅔ cup freshly grated pecorino cheese (plus extra for serving)
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

First, Garner whisks the eggs, milk and 2 teaspoons of salt together in a medium bowl. She provides Garten’s easy tips as she cooks, like stabilizing a measuring cup on a flat surface before pouring the milk in, or cracking the eggs on the countertop—not the side of a bowl—to prevent shells from going into the eggs.

Garten makes her surprise appearance by setting the temperature on the stove to very low.

“Let it kind of get creamy and custardy,” Garten says. “If you cook it at a high temperature, it gets tough.”

Before having Garner add the whisked egg mixture to the heated, buttered pan, Garten sprinkles in salt and pepper. The eggs then get poured in the pan.

“Just let it sit for a minute until it starts to set, then you start pushing it around with [the spatula],” Garten explains to Garner. “Once it sort of sets a little bit, you just keep stirring it, and you end up with really fluffy, big clouds of scrambled eggs.”

When the fluffy eggs are almost done, Garten gives them a hefty sprinkle of pecorino cheese and black pepper. The chef turns the heat off as the eggs finish cooking.

You can serve the eggs as-is or with sliced toasted country bread, per Garten’s suggestion. Garner tries the dish and declares it “delicious” as Garten sprinkles on a little more salt. Fans are loving both the recipe and the dynamic duo together.

“If a Jen & Ina cooking show was a real thing … my life would be complete,” one fan commented on the video. We totally agree with that!

The easy recipe is a simple way to bring your scrambled eggs to the next level, and Garten’s game-changing cooking tips are always appreciated.
