Worker-Owned Business Program

Catalyst Miami is committed to building a more democratic economy in Miami. The Worker-Owned Business Program helps residents learn about and establish worker cooperatives and worker-governed nonprofits. These are enterprises where employees collectively own and manage the business and share in the profits.

This cooperative business model places employees and community benefits at the forefront, giving workers greater control over their work and economic well-being. In addition, worker-owned businesses contribute to a more equitable economy by promoting community economic development and jobs that build wealth for all employees.

Welcome to the fifth Worker-Owned Business Academy! This course is a requirement for joining the worker-owned cleaning business started by Miami Workers Center (MWC) members. Anyone, regardless of their gender, can join the business.

In four sessions, we’ll break down the myths about worker-owned businesses, and fill you in on how these businesses are structured legally and managed democratically. You’ll learn about the founding members’ start-up process and their future business goals. Then, you’ll be eligible to apply to join this business that prioritizes, protects, and respects its workers!

Complete this registration form by June 17 and feel free to share it. Please be aware that the academy will have a limit of 15 participants.

By expanding worker cooperatives and cooperative nonprofits in Miami, our program is catalyzing a more resilient and inclusive business sector that benefits everyone.

This program provides everything from education about co-ops to support with launching a prospective business. It is specifically for those who are interested in learning about worker cooperatives or are already in the process of starting their own. And, for businesses that want to transition to worker ownership, this program offers the knowledge about cooperatives, management skills, financial tools, and tailored technical assistance necessary to see it through.
