SUMMARY:  

The Development Manager provides support for a range of fundraising activities, including grant proposal management, major donor program administration, and fundraising event support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead donor management and recognition, and communications including message development, appeal design, tracking of donors and list segmentation.
  • Manage online giving opportunities and donor management platform.
  • Work with the Development Director, department leads, and CEO to manage grant proposals, applications, grants, etc. as requested.
  • Develop, write, and submit grant proposals.
  • Develop and update proposal calendar; track and communicate results of grant proposal submissions.
  • Gain and maintain familiarity with past and current funded proposals and with all organization funding opportunities.
  • Gain and maintain an understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and the organization.
  • Work collaboratively with each department to track and manage the grant reporting process.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Department to track and maintain records of grants and donations.
  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including the Be the Catalyst Summit, Give Miami Day, and autumn donor event.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development Director on fundraising activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Development Director.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Advancement to lead our Development & Communications Team. This role will lead communications and narrative strategy across the organization’s programmatic and fundraising work, tailoring our messaging to various audiences, including program participants, media, government officials, and donors. The position also involves leading the development and execution of strategic fundraising initiatives, fostering a culture of philanthropy among our supporters.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for defining and developing Catalyst Miami’s communications efforts for a variety of audiences. Plans, directs, and manages the development office’s activities and operations. Supports operations, programs, and development in accomplishing key objectives with strong communications to clients/alumni, partners, and donors/funders. Ensures donor satisfaction and institutional success in fundraising efforts.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the expansion of our major donor program, Catalysts for Change, researching opportunities, building donor relationships, and effectively stewarding new and existing donors.
  • Co-creates and leads execution of annual plan for development
  • Co-leads strategy and implementation for organization-wide fundraising events
  • Assures that the “culture of philanthropy” is thoroughly and effectively integrated with all other departments so the goal of each may contribute to higher revenues every year.
  • Leads the fundraising team and oversees the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and individual donors locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Ensures that all grant application and reporting language aligns with organization-wide communications and fundraising strategies
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to engage them in the organization’s development efforts
  • Oversee the development, creation, distribution, and maintenance of all print and digital campaign, initiative and event collateral including, but not limited to, promotional merchandise, social media content, newsletters, brochures, website, videos, and flyers
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate media outreach strategies to target specific outlets and secure coverage by cultivating and maintaining relationships with media contacts.
  • Ensures website aligns with strategic plan and communications strategy
  • Develop and oversee implementation of a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with organizational brand identity and messaging.
  • Develop strategies including training to build brand awareness among key stakeholders including Catalyst Miami board members and staff; Ensure brand consistency and integrity across all communications channels, materials, and campaigns.
  • Address communications "gaps" in the organization and develop ways to meet staff and organizational needs.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of campaigns and initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization by preparing and/or editing key messages, talking points and speeches for press releases, media advisories, blogs, op-eds, and other content coordination as needed.
  • Represents the institution through participation at professional meetings and other events
  • Develop a strong familiarity with the organization and its program-related activities
  • Develops, maintains, and allocates department budget; operates within approved budget
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises 2 employees within the Advancement department.
  • Indirectly supervises 1 employee within the Advancement department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Catalyst Miami's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, onboarding / training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Language: Professional working proficiency in oral and written English
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field or equivalent
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience or equivalent
  • A minimum of three (3) years of managerial experience or equivalent
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of web-based platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience as a fundraising generalist, with hands-on practice at institutional giving/grant writing, major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnership building, special events, CRM management, and online giving campaigns
  • Deep understanding of communications strategies and best practices, with a demonstrated ability to apply them effectively in a mission-driven organization.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and meet deadlines

JOB TITLE: Community Economic Development Coordinator

SUMMARY: Provide wide-ranging assistance to Catalyst Miami’s Community Economic Development (CED) programming, including business coaching and technical assistance to small business owners and worker-owned businesses with a focus on owners/worker-owners of color at or below AMI. Position is required to participate in team and staff meetings, staff-wide events, and collaborative efforts with other departments. Position requires flexibility, compassion, and the ability to work in an ever-changing environment.       

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Small Business Services team to provide one-on-one technical assistance to small businesses, including but not limited to business planning and modeling, regulatory compliance, marketing and sales strategy, operations and financial assistance, and referrals to other forms of professional assistance where necessary.
  • Assist Small Business Services and Worker-Owned Business program leads schedule, organize, and facilitate educational cohorts.
  • Collaborate with Catalyst Miami’s communications team to conduct outreach, e.g., advertise our services to generate interest from future clients and promote our clients’

business offerings.

  • Collaborate with VP of Community Economic Development to structure and facilitate CED department meetings.
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to improve client flow between programming, improve intake processes for CED clients, and participate in cross-departmental collaborative efforts as necessary.
  • Collaborate with VP of Community Economic Development on emergent projects as they arise, which may include designing new initiatives, conducting research, discussing program needs across the department and other duties as they arise.
  • Collaborate with VP of Community Economic Development to help facilitate capacity-building programming geared at other economic development organizations across Miami-Dade County.
  • Represent CED on coalition and/or partner meetings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with department-wide strategy, including but not limited to creating place-based and/or partnership-based small business assistance and worker cooperative incubation strategies to determine the kinds of legacy businesses that community residents want and need most in their communities, e.g., by conducting community needs assessments.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with clients and partners as necessary, including but not limited to collaborating with partner organizations to launch workshops or other outreach events.
  • Identify and refer participants to other Catalyst Miami services.
  • Identify and refer participants to resources and services needed for small businesses and cooperatives to thrive. This requires keeping abreast of local small business assistance offerings as they arise.
  • Work with program leads and VP of Community Economic Development with program evaluation, including drafting and distributing surveys to clients, analyzing results, and making recommendations on how to improve programming.
  • Work directly with CED program leads to identify key metrics we should be collecting, create processes to collect data, and help streamline data collection and maintenance with assistance from other staff as necessary.
  • Create and maintain internal archiving and storage for programmatic materials on online databases, including internal documents, public-facing documents, and participant materials for all CED programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

JOB TITLE: Director of Worker-Owned Businesses

SUMMARY: The Director of Worker Cooperatives is responsible for oversight of the organization’s Worker-Owned Business Program, an incubator for worker-owned-and-run businesses called worker cooperatives. The Director will dictate the strategy of Catalyst Miami’s Worker-Owned Businesses program, help cooperatives troubleshoot problems as they arise, connect cooperatives with partnership, business development and funding opportunities, and act as the lead resource for cooperatives under incubation. The Director is responsible for the development of start-up cooperative businesses and engaging prospective cooperative conversion businesses.     

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and facilitate the worker cooperative incubator sessions pertaining to business development and entrepreneurship. Prepare curriculum for specialized trainings if necessary.
  • Provide worker cooperatives with technical assistance, including business planning, commercial lease and insurance policy review, basic regulatory compliance, business development, and referrals to other forms of professional assistance where necessary.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential opportunities for cooperative businesses.
  • Help business owners access capital for their small businesses, including micro-loan packaging and packaging for public sector assistance programs (i.e., federal, state, and local loan products and small business relief funds). Specific services may change over time. Coordinate with local Seed Commons project officer to explore non-extractive and patient cooperative lending.
  • Coordinate legal incorporation, regulatory compliance, and governance structure with attorneys, when applicable.
  • Coordinate open-book accounting with accountants and CPAs, when applicable.
  • Coordinate with consultants providing technical assistance to the organization on worker cooperative development.
  • Develop, review and assist in implementing marketing and customer acquisition strategy with incubator participants.
  • Provide one-on-one financial assistance that includes, but is not limited to, accounting assistance, pro forma preparation, breakeven analyses, financial projections, and helping clients open commercial bank accounts.
  • Support the development/strengthening of the back office for cooperative businesses, including bookkeeping, payroll, human resource policies, and more.
  • Provide strategic planning support to each cooperative.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with members of cooperatives within the program.
  • Work with the Community Economic Development team to devise and implement strategies that help communities build political and economic power.
  • Contribute strategically to expand organization’s community ownership platform.
  • Collaborate with Catalyst Miami’s communications team to conduct outreach, e.g., advertise our services to generate interest from future clients and promote our clients’ business offerings.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations, including other cooperative developers, to organize workshops or other outreach events.
  • Collaborate with VP of CED’s work with partner organizations, anchor institutions, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to help foster a cooperative ecosystem in Miami-Dade County.
