New Overtown development announced

New Overtown development received $1.3 million from the OMNI Community Redevelopment Agency.
The OMNI Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) unveiled plans at a groundbreaking ceremony last week for a mixed-use affordable housing project in Overtown called Project Peach.
The building will be erected on a 3,500-square-foot parcel at 123 NW 14th St., with $1.3 million in support from the OMNI CRA.
Its design will offer ground-floor, 600 square-foot commercial spaces for small businesses. The second floor will provide 2,000 square feet of civic space for Catalyst Miami headquarters, a local nonprofit that describes itself as being dedicated to community-driven change, addressing socioeconomic issues and building a more equitable Miami. Floors three and four will house three affordable rental units, each approximately 850 square feet in size and the fourth floor will have 900 square feet of community event space with a ‘rooftop oasis,’ complete with kitchen, storage, and shaded areas.
The project’s name honors the entrepreneurial and community spirit of the Cola-Nip Bottling Company that was once located nearby. Cola-Nip was known for producing and bottling two popular flavors, Peach Whip and Orange Smile.
