What’s the Patient Involvement Network?

The network is the name for the people who work with us to help shape and influence our work through various activities. These are shared through a fortnightly email containing the latest opportunities to get involved.

You’ll take part in any activities or roles you’re interested in and get updates on the work people have already been involved with.

What will I be doing?

You can be involved in as much or as little as you like. Some opportunities will need more time commitment than others. We put how much time each involvement activity takes so you can decide if it’s right for you. Below are the types of activities you’ll be offered to take part in:

  • Surveys - Questionnaires completed online.
  • Cancer Insights Panels - We have four panels, each made up of 15 people and you can find out more here.
  • Workshops, focus groups, and interviews - Used to get insight from a specific group of people, for example, people with certain cancers.
  • Patient panels - Groups of people enlisted to give advice and feedback throughout a project.
  • Patient representatives - People enlisted to sit on a funding committee or recruitment panel.
  • and more!

Whether you've got lots of time to spare or only a little, and whatever your experience of cancer, we have a variety of activities for you to get involved, using  your cancer experience to help shape our work.

Who can take part?

Anyone who has a personal experience of cancer (either personally or through a loved one), is 18 years old or over, and is a UK resident can take part in our involvement opportunities.

We want to work with all people affected by cancer to ensure our work reflects the needs of the people we serve.

We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive space where everyone can be themselves and help shape our work. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, communities, and cultures and believe that a range of views and experiences will help us represent all people affected by cancer.

What experience do I need?

You DON'T NEED any prior knowledge of Cancer Research UK, experience of Patient and Public Involvement, or an understanding of research or scientific understanding of cancer.

We try to ensure that our opportunities are accessible to everyone and offer support to members when they get involved.

If you’d like to get involved but are unsure if you have the right skills and experience, we’d love to chat with you. Contact the team on 0203 4698777 or email involvement@cancer.org.uk to arrange a call.
