JMU Sports Network will be utilizing a brand new control room inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center (AUBC) for their broadcasts this year. The control room will not only improve the quality of broadcasts, but provide students with opportunities to use top of the industry equipment.

JMU field hockey head coach Christy Morgan was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame on Monday. Morgan has coached a total of 18 seasons at JMU, and was the first person in NCAA field hockey history to win a national championship as a player and a coach.

After announcing that they'll be joining the Mid-American Conference for its 2024 season, JMU field hockey announced its final independent schedule for the 2023 season. The Dukes will be facing two affiliate member MAC opponents along with eight 2022 Top 25 teams. 

After enduring four straight losing seasons, JMU club ice hockey finished its 2022 season 7-2 and advanced to the playoffs for the first time in five years. In the team's journey back to the playoffs, they battled not just their opponents but also long car rides to their rink, school work and a culture that needed to be re-established. Over the summer, JMU field hockey senior midfielder Deide Remijnse went on a study abroad trip to Cartagena, Colombia, through her global supply chain management minor and made products made of yucca, a root vegetable used to make medicine. Remijnse and other JMU students on the trip rehashed her experience to staff writer Zach Mendehall — who all detailed stark differences between life in the U.S. versus Columbia, like how early in life Columbians can obtain a driver's license. 

JMU field hockey is streaking, winning its last three games. In those wins plus two others, the Dukes have accumulated 17 assists, while none in their three losses. JMU and William & Mary field hockey renewed their in-state rivalry in a ranked matchup Friday, which saw the Dukes take the win 1-0. The No. 25 Dukes move to 4-3 and have another ranked opponent on the docket coming up, with No. 11 Liberty trekking across the Shenandoah Valley to Harrisonburg on Sunday.  

Miranda Rigg (2015-19) used to don the purple and gold for JMU field hockey, but now, she has a whistle around her neck as the youngest head coach in Longwood University history. Staff writer Zach Mendenhall details the qualities the 25 year old brings to the Lancers from the voices of her former head coach at JMU, Christy Morgan, and her "accountability partner" while playing at JMU, now graduate defender Kara McClure.  

Field hockey is just one of three JMU athletic programs not headed to the Sun Belt for 2022-23 competition. Staff writer Zach Mendenhall highlights what the Dukes have been up to in preparation for a season where they'll embark on roughly 10,000 miles of travel as an independent program.

JMU football got back on track with a win at Richmond on Saturday. As many fall sports are approaching CAA tournaments, teams are looking for pivotal wins to set the tone for conference play.

JMU field hockey went scoreless in its loss to No. 7 ranked Maryland on Sunday, losing 3-0. This is the Dukes’ fifth loss of the season and second scoreless game of the year — the other was their 2-0 loss at Appalachian State on Sept. 10. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak. 

JMU men’s and women’s tennis started their seasons last weekend with winning performances. This week, softball starts its fall schedule with its first game since the Dukes’ historic WCWS performance.

JMU fall sports are getting deeper into the season and some teams are finding a rhythm on the field and court, while more teams start their seasons. The Dukes continue to face tough, quality conference and nonconference opponents with another exciting week of sports.
