Redshirt senior guard Noah Freidel has traveled to 11 JMU basketball games this season and made the trip to Brooklyn for the Dukes’ NCAA Tournament appearance. Freidel has had a tradition of hugging his grandmother Peggy Wollman after every game since he was an eighth grader and said having her and his family present for March Madness makes the experience even more special.

No. 12 seed JMU basketball 31-3 (15-3) will play its first NCAA tournament game since 2013 on Friday against No. 5 seed Wisconsin in Brooklyn. JMU heads into the tournament with the longest active winning streak in the country, while Wisconsin is coming off a 93-87 loss to No. 10 Illinois in the Big Ten Championship. 

JMU men’s hoops defeated Marshall 81-64 on Friday to secure its spot in the Sun Belt conference semifinals and its 29th win of the season. Redshirt junior guard Terence Edwards Jr. scored 17 points and seven assists and graduate forward T.J Bickerstaff scored 11 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. 

Former JMU men’s basketball coach and Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer Charles “Lefty” Driesell passed away Saturday morning at the age 92. He compiled a 159-111 record in nine seasons with the Dukes, winning the 1994 CAA championship along with five straight regular season titles from 1989-94.
