The paper assesses the perception of the stakeholders on the establishment of a model almajiri schools in Nasarawa State. The research design used for this study was a survey research design, which involves the collection of data from random sample of the target population. The population of the study is made up of all Almajiris, their teachers and parents in Five (5) wards of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The instrument used in conducting this study was an interview questions designed by the researcher, which has a definite set of questions and predetermined order of asking. The data for the study which were derived from the responses of the Almajiris, the teachers and parents to the interview items were analyzed, using simple percentages and mean scores. The hypotheses were tested by Kruskal-Wallis (H) statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Almajiris, their Parents and Teachers are in support of this model (integration of traditional Quranic schools within its original location as a means of integrating Almajiri education into formal education system) and the third model of integration of basic education into the curriculum of established Islamiyyah and Ma'ahad schools as a means of integrating Almajiri education into formal education system. The paper recommended that The Almajiris should be provided with opportunities to acquire sound knowledge by the Government and non-governmental organizations. This can be achieved by developing the two most acceptable models of integrating Almajiris system into the formal system of education. These models are integration of traditional Quranic schools within its original location as a means of integrating Almajiri education into formal education system and the integration of basic education into the curriculum of established Islamiyyah and Ma'ahad schools as a means of integrating Almajiri education into formal education system.

Assessing socio-cultural factors affecting integration of Almajiris into formal education system in Katsina state, NigeriaThis study investigated the socio-cultural factors affecting integration into the formal education system in Katsina State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. There were 653 Almajiris purposively selected from twelve Almajiris schools in Katsina State. A researcherdesigned questionnaire titled: ''Almajiris socio-cultural factors questionnaire'' (ASCFQ) with test-retest reliability coefficient of 0.88 was used to collect data for the study. Analysis of data was carried out using frequencies and percentages. Findings revealed that most parents abandon their children in these informal Arabic schools. Most Almajiris (603, that is 92.3%) responded that their Mallams (Teachers) do not feed them. Therefore, the only means of survival is through begging and doing menial jobs. Based on these findings, it is recommended that all the identified socioeconomic factors affecting the integration of Almajiris into the formal education system should be addressed by the government. This can be done through public enlightenment campaigns and provision of incentives.

Integration of Education: The Case Study of Islamic Elementary Schools in Surakarta, Indonesia2019 •
2022 •
The term Almajiri in Nigeria is used to describe those children or youths who left their hometowns in search for Islamic education. Unlike pre-colonial Nigeria, the Almajiri system of education flourished and recorded exceptional accomplishment in literacy and social services, but today the system is faced with a myriad of challenges with glaring abnormalities. The aim of this study was, therefore, to conduct an empirical inquiry into the problems and prospects of the integration programme in North West Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria. A total of 240 Almajiris/pupils and 60 mallams/teachers responded to questionnaires designed for the study, while 33 community leaders and school heads were interviewed. The study reveals that authorities are performing below expectations in the area of education, which hinders the achievements of quality education for Nigerian Almajiris. Shortage of qualified teachers in some schools and inadequate numbers of Almajiri integrated schools in North West Nigeria were also recorded. The researchers further discovered that the government is not consistent in its policies and programmes there were a lot of irregularities and corrupt practices in institutionalized education, including the Almajiri Integrated Programme. It is therefore, recommended that the government should be consistent in its policy and programmes for the betterment of its citizens. Authorities’ approach to quality education should be centred on the eradication of corrupt practices. Almajiri Integrated Programme should be handled as introduced by president Goodluck’s Administration.

Impact of Teaching Basic Education in Nigeria's Quranic Schools through an Integrated Curriculum2013 •
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a Non-Formal Education Curriculum (NFEC) designed by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and UNICEF in integrating students of Traditional Qur'anic Schools (TQS) into the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme. TQS provide early religious socialisation and training focused on the study of the Quran to several categories of Muslim children including many who are also enrolled in formal primary schools. But the most valued students of TQS, in terms of their potentials of contributing to the continuity of culturally valued religious traditions, are the boys that devote full-time attention to the exclusive study of the Qur'an and other Islamic subjects under the tutelage of Qur'anic teachers (malammai , in Hausa). On the other hand, these boys (called almajirai ) are considered by the Nigerian state as largest category of out-of-school children. The problem addressed by this research is how effectively has the NFEC been in mediating these conflicting perceptions of the almajirai and encouraging their participation in the UBE? In order to answer this question, data were collected on three main variables (institutional capacities of the schools, students’ participation rates, & social acceptability) regarding the implementation of NFEC using a questionnaire, classroom observation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). These instruments were administered on samples drawn from malammai and facilitators the participating TQS (PTQS) in Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states. The study found that the effectiveness of the NFEC was hampered by constraints of poor quality of teaching personnel, inadequate supply of instructional resources, and inadequate provision for the welfare of the almajirai. In addition, negative indicators such as high dropout rates, declining enrolment of girls, and low transition to formal schools suggest that PTQS are not enabling the full participation of their students into the UBE. On their part, the malammai showed little enthusiasm for NFEC going beyond providing the almajirai with basic rudimentary knowledge that will enhance their performance of social, economic, and civic routines.

Problems and Prospects of Almajiri Integrated Education in Northern Nigeria2013 •
"Abstract The issue of Almajiri education has been a subject of discussion among scholars and a subject of great concern to the authorities. Almajiri education started from time immemorial in the Northern part of Nigeria. This paper tries to clarify how the whole process started; the various dimensions the system took overtime and how government came in to rescue the deteriorating state of the system by integrating the system with the modern system, thereby making the beneficiaries (Almajirai) learn both the Almajiri education and the modern education simultaneously. In the end, the paper offers suggestions as to how the system could be improved so as to meet the standard set by National Policy on Education and subsequently attain Education for All (EFA) "
