High school students who take career and technical education (#CTE) courses... 🎓 Are more likely to graduate, achieve academic success, and be better prepared for college and career. 🏫 Are more likely to enroll in 2-year colleges. 💼 Are more likely to be employed after high school. A recent report from the CTE Research Network, led by AIR, synthesizes findings from 28 studies to determine the effect of CTE on high school students. The report also includes recommendations for #practitioners and #policymakers on how to better design CTE programs to prepare students for #postsecondary options and ensure that programs are offered in fields that lead to living wage employment. https://bit.ly/4atbUKc

Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
About us
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

As the United States' English-learner population grows each year, researchers and policymakers are working to understand how best to support these students both linguistically and academically. Much of this work centers around resources, including Title III funding, the only federal funding stream designated specifically to serve English-learners. AIR's Andrea Boyle is in Education Week discussing the purpose of Title III grants, how they work and are typically used, as well as challenges and strategies for using Title III funding effectively.

Compared to traditional approaches to hiring, skills-based practices are a more nimble and #equitable way of filling #workforce needs and advancing career opportunities for a more #diverse range of people. Instead of focusing on candidates' degrees, innovative #employers are asking critical questions about what skills are needed to fill various positions, recognizing that skills can be acquired not only through education, but through other types of training or experience. AIR connected with Johnson & Johnson, IBM, and Walmart to discuss the importance of skills-based hiring practices, why more employers should implement them, and how skills-based hiring works within their own organizations. https://lnkd.in/gCsc6HQs

"People often think that malnutrition stems only from insufficient food intake, or hunger. Food diversity is also a major problem, especially in many agricultural, rural areas." AIR's Juan Diego Bonilla studies agricultural development, nutrition, social protection, and education policy as part of AIR's #international division. In the latest #MeetTheExpert, he discusses misconceptions about diet diversity, the promise of #AI for farmers, and how orange-fleshed sweet potatoes are improving maternal and infant health in Tanzania. https://bit.ly/4aYn4Yh 🎨: Rick J. Teachers play an indispensable role in #wholechild development in critical areas like civic education, culturally responsible practices, and #SEL. A nationally representative survey of K-12 teachers led by AIR’s Center on Advancing Measurement & Assessment asked teachers about their experiences, beliefs, practices, and working conditions to better understand what kinds of supports they need for supporting whole child development.
