🌍 As Earth Day approaches, the spotlight is on this year’s theme “Planet vs Plastics.” Plastic pollution is contaminating our environment, affecting our health, and threatening natural habitats and species. The solution? It lies in embracing a circular economy. In this blog, RTI sustainability experts Keith Weitz, Jamie Pero Parker, and Zubair Fattahi offer concrete steps and real world models for transitioning from a linear “take, make, and consume” society that generates massive amounts of plastic waste to a truly sustainable post-plastic era. Government, industry, and consumers all have key roles to play. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ejushd8N #EarthDay #PlanetvsPlastics #CircularEconomy

Plastic pollution is affecting our oceans at an alarming rate. Some 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans annually. That’s akin to lining up five grocery bags of trash on every foot of coastline around the globe. Unfortunately, those five grocery bags of plastic are projected to be 10 bags by 2025. And since plastic doesn’t decompose, it remains in the ocean indefinitely, degrading into smaller pieces that harm marine ecosystems and human health. Our experts are leading research into bioplastics, innovative packaging, tools to improve management of solid waste, and strategies for reducing plastic use in the private sector. Learn more about our innovative efforts to help achieve the common dream of a circular economy to minimize use of the world’s resources, reduce waste, promote reuse, and cut carbon emissions: https://lnkd.in/euJj7iAf

📽️ New video! Learn how USAID's Jifunze Uelewe (Learn to Understand) Project has supported safe and inclusive education through basic sign language training for parents in Zanzibar, which has improved their ability to communicate with and support their deaf children. The Jifunze Uelewe project builds on the successes of the RTI-led USAID Tusome Pamoja Program and Hesabu na Elimu Jumuishi activity to advance safe and inclusive education in Tanzania, scale up pre-primary education, and build Tanzania’s capacity to sustain these gains over the long term. https://lnkd.in/e7fA-pMm

Patients went out-of-network 3.5 times more often to see a behavioral health clinician than a medical/surgical clinician, according to a new study from our researchers that found continuing and pervasive disparities in access to in-network mental health and substance use disorder treatment. “Our findings echo recent surveys and secret shopper studies that show much greater dissatisfaction with, and lower access to, behavioral health providers than medical/surgical providers,” said lead author Tami L. Mark, Ph.D., M.B.A., Distinguished Fellow and director of Behavioral Health Financing and Quality Measurement at RTI. https://lnkd.in/ezRT9ssc
