Investing in Sustainable Aquaculture for Protein Security and Ocean Health
About us
With the growing focus on our oceans as a source of nutritious and sustainable proteins, the Blue Food Innovation Summit will explore the opportunities and challenges in scaling aquaculture production while protecting and restoring the ocean ecosystem. Bringing together aquaculture producers and suppliers with the fast-growing start-up and investment community, the two-day summit will focus on the transformative potential of new technologies and encourage collaboration and partnership between stakeholders across the value-chain. Through plenary discussions, start-up showcases, fireside chats and 1-1 networking, the summit’s conversations will look across species at how we can create more circular systems and reduce the carbon footprint of aquatic foods, whilst increasing health, welfare and yield.

Did you know that only 1% of financing for decarbonisation and climate adaptation efforts goes the the #blueeconomy? At the Blue Food Innovation Summit last month, Citi Global Insights Director Ying highlighted the urgency for scaling blue investments for large-scale impact. As we celebrate #WorldOceansDay tomorrow (June 8), read this insightful story by Undercurrent News spotlighting key discussions catalysing action for our ocean & climate: https://lnkd.in/era-Yp3z #blueinvestment #bluefoodinnovation #oceanhealth #sdg14
Blue economy financing grows but still falls short, experts say Funding for the "blue economy" is growing quickly but still falls short of what is needed to transition to more sustainable models, according to experts at a recent conference in London, UK. Just 1% of financing for decarbonization and adaptation efforts globally each year goes to the oceans, according to Ying Qin, director of Citi Global Insights UK, whose spoke at the Blue Food Innovation Summit last month. Yet 21% of global greenhouse gas emissions reductions by 2050 will need to come from blue economy activities, according to the Ocean Panel, a grouping of 18 countries. Looking back on last week at the Blue Food Innovation Summit! 🌊 Loïc G. Carvalho and Jay Dignan enjoyed showcasing Biomara's fantastic Fucoidan and Nutriboost functional food ingredient🪸. We are pretty proud of the team's work getting this ready for market. It was incredible meeting so many passionate people keen to change global food systems and helping solve the 'ocean-climate nexus while achieving ROI in sustainable food sytems' (hat tip to Chris Gorell Barnes for the quote). Plus, rubbing elbows with seaweed industry superstars was a highlight. Another quote from Chris, "Be bold and believe because this is the biggest and most important thesis ever... To save the Oceans" Finally, cheers to Rethink Events for hosting. Thank you for the lovely testimonial - Richard Stavis (Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST)) - we're thrilled to see so many meaningful conversations and valuable connections springing out of the summit! Read all the key summit takeaways here: https://lnkd.in/eADtMaZp
Reflections on the Blue Food Innovation Summit #GDST #sustainableseafood #traceability #responsibleseafood I’m back from London, where I represented the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST) at the Blue Food Innovation Summit. What it lacked in weather (all rain, all the time!) it made up for in opportunity. It was a busy and productive couple of days. I go to a lot of conferences, conventions and expos. Some are focused on industry, others on the conservation community. This event pulls a different and diverse crowd, some of whom I might not otherwise have had the opportunity to connect. There was a strong focus on meetings- the app allows you to make meeting requests, and books you to one of a number of reserved tables. Additionally, the venue had a lot of couches and chairs, encouraging pick-up meetings. So, who did I meet? There were a number of regulators at the event, and all were open to discussion. Many of the familiar Seafood sustainability -focused nonprofits were there as well. There were some Seafood companies represented, start-ups and progressive established companies mostly focused on products created with regenerative Aquaculture, Seaweed and Oysters. There were a few people from academia and there were a number of investors. It is important to speak to them to reiterate the importance of interoperable traceability at their portfolio companies. 2 days, almost 20 meetings. It was a great event!
