  • With only days until the election, Tamora Langley - our Head of Policy and Communications here at The Parent-Infant Foundation - has had a look over the party manifestos and what they are or aren't mentioning when it comes to the youngest members of society, and the asks included in the @First1001Days Movement #Manifestoforbabies. Have a read here 👇

With all the party manifestos published now, I've looked at what they promise to deliver for babies. Our campaign to get parliamentary candidates to #SpeakUpForBabies is still going strong, with candidates signing up daily. Our Baby PM film has been viewed over 120,000 times, with social ads targeting political and politically interested audiences. Together with op-eds on Labour List and Con Home, we're doing all we can to get politicians to understand the support that vulnerable babies need.

What's in the political manifestos for babies?

  • Thanks to everyone who helped us #SpeakUpForBabies as part of #IMHAW2024 last week. Although the week has now drawn to a close, our campaign has not! There is still time before the #generalelection to ask your local candidates to #SpeakUpForBabies! Please help us give babies a voice by using these last two weeks pre-election to ask your candidates to join the campaign using our 'how to' guide👉bit.ly/3VeVMGt #IMHAW2024 If you are a parliamentary candidate and would like to show support for your youngest constituents, we'd love to hear from you 👉 bit.ly/4aYWdug

It's Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, and we are all go with our #SpeakUpForBabies campaign. Start for Life guidance estimates that at least 1 in 10 babies in the UK is living in fear and distress (at risk of disorganised attachment). An increasing number of toddlers are missing key developmental targets, and mental health conditions in children are on the rise. Babies don’t vote of course, so too often they are overlooked during elections. The Parent-Infant Foundation is asking candidates of all parties to #SpeakUpForBabies. More than a dozen candidates from different political parties are already supporting the campaign. Find out if your local politician has joined our campaign here 👉 bit.ly/4bljZBU   If they haven’t pledged support then please email them using our guide 👉 bit.ly/3VeVMGt The Parent-Infant Foundation has also created a film aimed at politicians, featuring a Baby Prime Minister. To give context we have placed this with an editorial on the LabourList website here 👉 bit.ly/3XbBmkh and the ConHome website here 👉 bit.ly/3RjrzEW. The film is designed to cut-through in this busy election period and ‘give babies a voice’. You can view it on YouTube here 👉 youtu.be/lzeT9eGPdso   #IMHAW2024

  • Great to see this important new report from The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood highlighting why investment in early years makes sense for babies and families, but also for the wider economy. As secretariat for the First 1001 Days Movement we have called for the next Government to invest more in prevention as part of our 'Manifesto for Babies'. Read more about the manifesto here 👉 bit.ly/3VpZKOk

Today, The Centre for Early Childhood’s impact continues with the publication of the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood report.     This work has been inspired by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, who established The Taskforce last year. This rallying call from Business highlights the huge scale of opportunity they have to drive, and benefit from, prioritising early years in the workplace, community and wider society.    Our experiences, relationships and surroundings during this time lay the foundations that help shape the adults we become and the society we create.    Businesses can play a hugely significant role in supporting their current workforce now, but there is also much longer-term opportunity to take a deeper preventative approach and invest in early childhood, to protect and strengthen future generations.      To read the report and join the movement, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eF77USze https://lnkd.in/euBGP8f9   #CaseforEarlychildhood

On World Maternal Mental Health Day, The Parent-Infant Foundation is pleased to support Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA)'s #MMHAdvocacyDay. A mother's mental health can play such an important part in building the foundations for a strong and positive parent-infant relationship. If a mother or main carer is struggling with their mental health it can impact how well they are able to bond with their baby, so it is crucial the right support is available from the very start. We support the call from MMHA for MPs to value new and expectant mothers' mental health as much as their physical health, and the ask that mental health is discussed at every contact with a healthcare professional.
