It’s 100 days since we launched our manifesto. It’s started some powerful conversations, but there’s still a long way to go until everything it calls for becomes a reality. Here’s a reminder of what we’re asking politicians, policy makers and funders to do: 🗨️ Give young people a meaningful say in their own mental healthcare 🌳 Fund community assets like parks and centres 🎒 Adopt a whole-school approach to mental wellbeing, involving the whole school community 🧠 Increase our understanding of childhood trauma 📈 Leverage the power of science and data to better understand young people’s needs. If you had 100 words to ask for a change for children and young people’s mental health, what would you ask for? Let us know in the comments! #ThinkingDifferently #AnnaFreud #MentalHealthCharity #MentalHealthMatters #ChildrensMentalHealth #YoungPeoplesMentalHealth #YouthMentalHealth #StudentMentalHealth #WholeSchoolApproach #CommunityHubs #CommunityCentres #Prevention #EarlyIntervention

About us
We're a mental health charity and we’ve been supporting children and young people for over 70 years. We listen to and learn from their diverse voices, and integrate this with learnings from our science and practice to develop and deliver mental health care. This holistic approach has world-changing potential – our training, schools support, networks, partnerships and resources equip those who impact children and young people’s lives with the knowledge and skills to support their mental health. We believe mental wellbeing is the foundation from which children and young people achieve their potential. By continually expanding our understanding and translating it into practice – grounded in science and guided by children and young people – we can ensure they get the right support at the right time.

Read the new impact case studies from NATP delegates - real-life examples of changes in approach, attitude and practice, including topics such as: 🔵 Changing the service environment – making it a more accessible experience for diagnosed and undiagnosed autistic people. 🔵 Working closely with Experts by Experience to co-deliver the training - training is made more impactful by them sharing their experiences and ideas around how staff can audit their own practice. 🔵 Using concepts from the NATP curriculum to change culture and everyday practice – applying NATP’s trauma-informed, experience-sensitive and neuro-inclusive approach. 🔵 Modifying training delivery, and navigating practical challenges of training staff in services. 🔵 Exploring how learning from NATP can be shared with other teams in the service – a whole service approach. NATP is an autism train the trainer programme, free for eligible staff. Delegates co-deliver the training back to colleagues with autistic Experts by Experience. We offer 1:1 bespoke support to embed NATP values and ethos. NATP aims to improve outcomes for autistic children, young people and adults. Read the stories and find out how to book training: https://orlo.uk/QfhFt NATP is for staff in NHS England mental health services, residential special education, and health and justice settings. NATP is run by Anna Freud in partnership with AT-Autism commissioned by NHS England. #NATPMentalHealth #AutismTraining #MentalHealthTraining #AnnaFreud #MentalHealthCharity #MentalHealthMatters #ChildrensMentalHealth #YoungPeoplesMentalHealth #YouthMentalHealth

A whole-school approach to wellbeing – where all parts of a school community work together to improve mental wellbeing – is crucial to helping improve children’s mental health. But teachers can’t do this alone – they need support and they also need more opportunities for professional development and training. Lots of positive work has begun, but here are some things we believe would help: - Revamp teacher training to help new teachers develop the knowledge and skills to support students’ mental health. - Prioritise all teachers’ development and wellbeing needs, developing understanding of the connections between staff and student wellbeing. - Require mental health awareness training for all school staff. - Provide up-to-date and evidence-based training about how to support and include neurodivergent children and how to work in partnership with parents and carers. Refugees can experience acute anxiety about the complex asylum process. They may worry about accommodation, money, education, access to legal advice. And there is often a constant concern about loved ones left behind or missing, according to the Refugee Council. All this takes a heavy toll on their mental wellbeing. Our Refugee Support Group exists to support one family in relocating from a refugee camp in Syria or Afghanistan in a planned and safe manner, avoiding the dangerous boat journeys. We need your help. This could be showing your support for our cause, helping us raise the necessary funds, or supporting the family on their arrival. Right now, we especially need support with: 🔵 Understanding the housing market and finding suitable accommodation for a family 🔵 Raising funds to help the family meet the high housing costs in Islington Can you help? It’s International Disability Awareness Day so we wanted to share some updates from our Disability and Accessibility Network here at Anna Freud! This is a group of our staff who provide support and a safe space for staff to share ideas on how we can constantly be improving accessibility and support for people with a disability or long term health condition. Recently our network has: 🔵 Raised staff awareness of various disabilities and long term health conditions such as fibromyalgia and a Deaf Awareness training delivered by the RNID. 🔵 Worked with the Business Disability Forum to give staff access to free information and advice. 🔵 Completing a Disability Smart Self-Assessment with input from across Anna Freud to pinpoint priority areas for us to improve accessibility. 🔵 Supported staff members with questions around disability and accessibility. 🔵 As an organisation, we've also joined the Disability Confident Scheme as part of a commitment to make a difference for disabled people in the workplace and during recruitment. All of our staff diversity networks play an important role in our EDI journey, through: 🔵 Dedicated spaces for an open conversation. 🔵 Constantly informing our thinking about how we can develop and improve how we work. 🔵 Acting as a ‘critical friend’. 🔵 Encouraging continuous learning and facilitating change with members from across the organisation working together. Do you have any questions? Drop them in the comments! #InternationalDisabilityAwarenessDay #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityAwareness #Accessibility #AnnaFreud #MentalHealthCharity #MentalHealthMatters
