Today marks a significant milestone for Bellwether Industries as we celebrate our 5th anniversary. This precious moment brings me back to why I embarked on this incredible adventure of making a flying vehicle. From my earliest memories, I grew up near an airport in San Francisco. Mom used to tell me how I loved to lean by the window and be captivated by the graceful dance of airplanes taking off and landing. I always said to my friends and teachers that the airport was my favourite place, not only due to my fascination with airplanes but also because of the diverse array of travellers from different countries. The scents and sounds at that moment held a fresh vibe for me. I still remember I often took apart small objects and reassemble them to make my own aircraft. Sometimes, I stacked cushions to build my own spacecraft cockpit on sofa pads, imagining flying a vehicle to navigate through outer space or driving a submarine to explore the deep ocean. I enjoyed these moments when I was trying to turn my imagination into reality. These ordinary days were not merely a part of my life; they evolved into a passion deeply rooted in those formative years. It reminds me of the day my Dad took me to Universal Studio Hollywood. We entered a cool facility and hopped into a fancy flying car. The iconic sci-fi movie “Back to the Future” played out in front of me with the immersive soundtrack surrounding me. It felt as if I was right in the movie travelling in time and completing a special mission. I was intrigued by the authenticity of the experience. That moment stuck with me since then and became a turning point – 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐲. So, six years ago, a group of individuals from Royal College of Art, Imperial College London and London School of Economics and Political Science formed a team called “Nuttaplane” in the school basement, with the ambition of changing the mode of transportation and bringing the best experience for people. That marked the beginning of “Volar”, which is “not a plane”. This is how the story begins. Bellwether Industries was founded right after in 2019, not just to make a flying vehicle, but to create a wonderful and accessible experience for three-dimensional travel. It's been a wild ride, and as we celebrate today, here's to more years of keeping it real in the world of transportation. 🚀 Opening 2024 marks Bellwether Industries' 5th anniversary. I would like to first pay my deepest appreciation to our visionary investors for believing in and supporting us in making the boldest, most efficient, and most impactful decisions shaping the future. I am also grateful for everyone who has followed our endeavour and believed in us witnessing all the growth and achievements we have accomplished. Surviving and thriving through the startup hustle for half a decade is just the beginning of our ambitious journey. Beyond 3 generations of prototypes, pioneering core technologies, global recognition, generating revenue, and technical and commercial partners, there lies a future of untapped potential. We were named in eVTOL Insights' PowerBook, honoured as Global Thought Leaders broadcasting on CBS News and Gulf News, met with HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched BAMS, more than 30 million views and audience engagements online, and so much more. The journey has not been easy but has certainly been the most vivid and exciting. Our voyage into flying cars commenced a decade ago when we built Gazelle, our first prototype in college. It has always been in our mind to be the most human-centric and city-compatible urban mobility. We stick to the core concept of building the most efficient and safest everyday aircraft while seeing SpaceX realising reusable rockets, electric cars becoming the vehicle for this generation, exciting MR and Metaverse applications, and AI becoming the next big thing. Technologies can move lightning fast in 10 years, and all the investments going into the Advanced Air Mobility ecosystem indicate the direction for future transport. Bellwether was conceived not just as a company but as a dynamic force for sustainable and impactful ventures. It's not about a quick scale-and-exit game. It's about shaping the future of civilisation and elevating our everyday lives. Our sights are set on an inspiring future, revolutionising mobility and innovation not just for the next decade but the next century. Here's to the bold, the dreamers, and the disruptors.
