A fantastic day where our team get back to nature, combined with discussions around mental wellbeing 💚

    Director at Waste Knot

Two and a half weeks ago we held our inaugural Waste Knot People day with the most open-minded, incredible team from BaxterStorey. A seed planted during 2020, with its roots based in building mental resilience and an approach to wellbeing based on our connections with nature, we look to explore how our internal systems survive or struggle in response to external factors (within our control and beyond) and how we can nurture and nourish ourselves with all that nature offers us. Our generational and historic conditioning can teach us so much but also wire us to ways of being we no longer question. Waste Knot People is designed to uncover those textures and layers of seeing and feeling, enabling us to be able to read signs, physical and mental, and to gently challenge that conditioning and what we traditionally pull on as resources, again, physically and mentally. Within the blueprint of what Waste Knot People fundamentally started out to achieve was witnessed, firsthand, throughout the day, in varying contexts, environments and demonstrations but the ethos of pushing the edges of development through imagination and sensation and playing with the intelligences of creation came through abundantly. The ability to access all of our senses; individually and collectively meant we saw, touched, tasted, listened and smelt on a level rarely permitted. We all know that being out in nature opens us to further feeling and thinking so where else would make a better stage to deliver crucial messages? Enormous thanks to those who were the messengers on the day, carrying wisdom we can all use in our everyday lives or to keep in our kitbags for when we need to draw on it; Peter Thompson Mark Nowers Emma Kate Ross Tobie-Anna Durk, the amazingly talented Arthur Potts Dawson who cooked up a storm, the wonderful Gavin, chief forager and firemaker, Piers Zangana for epic press coverage and William Jupp for papping us all through the day. And,of course,to those who had the faith to take the leap as our first cohort with their unending support, enthusiasm and understanding of what we’re trying to achieve; Greg Bramwell Dan Wilson Michael Cunningham Jo Woodward Emmanuelle Pagès Holly Barron Elliot Faulkner Lizzie Hennig RNutr Sam Fisk Stuart Aitken. Thank you. With ideas fireworking left, right and centre since, it is beyond exciting to think of what we can achieve in this space and the ways and means of how we get there. Those who know me will be aware I don’t tend to do business in a very businessy way. I repel spreadsheets and deny the word ‘strategy’ exists. But I respond to a need; a need that can change and positively disrupt the protocol. The belief in that need being understood and appreciated flies on the wings of the turtle doves. All we do at Waste Knot is based on the nurturing of relationships; building foundations from the root-up to embed collaboration, authenticity and a trust in that belief. Wow that was long. Well done if you’re still here. 🌱

Did you know that women of menopausal age represent 11% of the UK workforce? However, fewer than a quarter of workplaces have implemented a menopause policy. We're proud that our very own Lyndsey Oliver has featured in Facilities Management Journal (FMJ) this month, talking the increasing awareness of menopause. We're taking a multi-pronged approach towards creating an inclusive environment by exploring appropriate workplace adjustments like practical matters including cooler office spaces, access to showers, 'Menopause at Work' resources, beneficial nutrition information, podcasts, menopause champions, and more. "Employers not only need to meet their legal requirements, we need to break the stigma and normalise conversations to provide individualised support," says Lyndsey.
