About us
Women in Property creates opportunities, expands knowledge and inspires change for women working in the property and construction industry. We are a networking and professional development membership organisation which, for over thirty years, has been working with businesses and other industry groups to help redress the gender imbalance. Women in Property links members to fellow professionals across sectors and across the UK. We are multi-disciplinary, encouraging an exchange of ideas and sharing of expertise, often through our extensive schedule of best practice workshops, site visits, key note talks and social events. We believe that success and its rewards should be founded on merit and expertise, rather than on gender. We actively seek an industry that is balanced, diverse and inclusive, so we nurture girls aspiring to a career in the built environment, as well as supporting women in 'mid career' and at board level, many making the most of our acclaimed Mentoring programme. @WiPUK

What else do you do on a sunny summer evening than to go for a social gathering at a cricket match? This is exactly what some Women in Property South East members and their guests did on Friday 21st June. We met at the Pilgrim Pub, Vauxhall before making our way to The Oval to watch Surrey v Glamorgan. Fantastic to meet new and familiar faces, and an excellent way to network. Thanks to Steve Hallam for educating those less familiar with the rules! Thank you to Caroline Allen who organised the event and CATHY STEWART, who hosted the evening. #theoval #aspire #inspire #succeed #summerevenings

Fabulous! Thanks for sharing this with us Charity Zawadi Mwambeyu!
Yesterday was one of my favourite reminders of inspiring women in engineering, and how many I have yet to come across! This year's INWED theme is #EnhancedByEngineering. See how the projects we've worked on at Ramboll enhance the lives of those around us. Happy #INWED24! #womeninengineering #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering

I knew from his earliest days that my youngest son was different. Late to milestones (particularly speech), sleeplessness and early waking, risk-taking and lack of inhibition, hypermobility, ambidextrousity (is that a word?), comprehension and so on. But there was a pandemic remember and health visitors never came. There were no touch points to work out whether something was at play and he might need additional support. Years later and we finally reach a conclusion: ADHD and dyspraxia (DCD). It has been a strange and at times upsetting journey. The school system left us to our own devices having described him as “easily distracted” and “needing to pay attention more” for over 2 years. Thanks for that. The doctor said “he seems fine to me” which left me feel dismissed and gaslighted. We got there in the end but my word, how grateful I am to my family, friends and the team at Higgs LLP for letting me share the highs and lows along the way. One of the many things I have taken away from the past 12 months is how little I really knew about neurodiversity and I am embarrassed to admit it. I have always been passionate about inclusion and yet there I was with so many questions, realising how little I truly understood/appreciated the challenges faced by my neurodiverse colleagues and how to support them or indeed parents on the same path as me. So what I advocate for now is: 📝 Training and information sessions - allowing people to gain a better understanding of neurological differences. Exploring conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia, providing insights into the strengths, challenges and perspectives 💡 Supporting managers to ensure they understand different communication preferences (e.g. written, spoken, email, visual prompts etc) and how to appreciate and be more aware of neurodiversity 🕣 Flexible and remote working options to accommodate specific needs and preferences combined with breaks/downtime and a private, quiet space to manage sensory overloads 📰 Plain English job adverts and an agile approach to interviews and selection methods. A one-size-fits-all will never work… 🖥️ Offering a range of workspaces to suit different needs including quieter spaces with fewer sensory stimuli 🩺 Giving time off to people for medical appointments (for themselves or family members) and encouraging open conversation so they do not feel alone 🙌 Enhanced paid leave for carers… a week of unpaid leave is nowhere near enough for many people! Hugs thanks to Mo (Harford) Bury for your BRILLIANT insights yesterday, we will be inviting you back soon. I was blown away by the discussions that took place and the level of engagement with the subject matter. Favourite quote from the session: “A person with ADHD has the power of a Ferrari engine but with bicycle-strength brakes.” Edward (Ned) Hallowell, M.D. #ThankYou #ADHD #Dyspraxia #DCD #Awareness #Neurodiversity [📸 Image of my son and I painting in The Lakes.]
