Manipur MPs, both from Cong, take oath
Guwahati: As Manipur’s two MPs — Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Alfred K Arthur of Congress — were sworn in as Lok Sabha members during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the House reverberated with chants of “Manipur, Manipur” from the INDIA alliance members.
Representing the Inner Manipur constituency, Akoijam took his oath in Meiteilon, pledging his allegiance to the Constitution and the laws of the nation.
He concluded his oath by passionately declaring, “Jai Hind, long live our motherland, long live mother Manipur.”
Similarly, Outer Manipur MP Arthur, in a traditional Tangkhul shawl, took his oath in English, vowing to uphold the Constitution. As he concluded, he emphatically stated in Hindi, “Manipur mei nyay dilaye, desh bachaiye (bring justice in Manipur, save the country),” amid the ongoing slogans from INDIA alliance members.
