    The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon visited Brunei Darussalam from 3-5 Jul to further bilateral judicial cooperation. CJ Menon delivered a speech to the Brunei judiciary on “The Role of an Effective and Efficient Judiciary in Promoting Economic Development – The Singapore Perspective”.     In PP v Randy Rosigit [2024] SGHC 171, the General Division of the High Court allowed the prosecution’s appeal against sentence and set out a five-step sentencing framework for the offence of possessing child abuse material under s 377BK(1) punishable under s 377BK(2) of the Penal Code (Cap 224, 2008 Rev Ed).     In Pertamina International Marketing & Distribution Pte Ltd v P-H-O-E-N-I-X Petroleum Philippines, Inc and another matter [2024] SGHC(I) 19, SICC dismised the application to set aside a previous court order that allowed Pertamina to enforce a final arbitral award against the Phoenix and Udenna Corporation in Singapore.     In Crapper Ian Anthony v Salmizan bin Abdullah [2024] SGCA 21, the Court of Appeal allowed an appeal against a decision of the General Division of the High Court, and held that parties in a negligence claim for personal injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents (“PIMA”) can reserve the issue of causation to the subsequent stage of the proceedings. The Court of Appeal held that parties in a PIMA claim are not precluded from entering into an interlocutory judgment by consent without admitting causation, and bifurcation can be ordered in PIMA cases when causation is reserved and where liability has not been determined at the first stage of the proceedings.     On 1 Jul 2024, the Express Track will be implemented in the General Division of the High Court. The Express Track is a new opt-in scheme, designed to fill the gap for matters that have disputes of fact making them unsuitable for disposal by way of Originating Applications or summary judgments.     In DBO and others v DBP and others [2024] SGCA(I) 4, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against the decision of a three-Judge coram of the SICC but noted the importance for a tribunal to clearly set out the factual parameters upon which it determines an application for early determination.     In Darsan Jitendra Jhaveri and others v Lakshmi Anil Salgaocar (suing as the administratrix of the estate of Anil Vassudeva Salgaocar) and another [2024] SGHC(A) 20, the Appellate Division of the High Court made no order on two applications to adduce and rely on further evidence at the hearing of an appeal.
