When participants enter classes for SAL's upcoming Junior Lawyers Professional Certification from 2025, they can look forward to a new way of learning, thanks to our partnership with the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore (SUSS-IAL). This will pilot future-oriented pedagogies in the curriculum: these include problem-based learning, design thinking, and agile learning frameworks. Ms Delphine Loo Tan, Senior Director of Learning & Professional Development at SAL, welcomed the partnership, noting its potential impact on members. "“The IAL's unique approach of joint experimentation on future-oriented pedagogies will help our trainers deliver their lessons in a more effective and impactful manner. We hope that this transformative approach to adult learning will shorten the learning runway for our young lawyers, and ease the ever-increasing pressure on them to balance family, work, leisure and continuing professional development.” The partnership with SUSS-IAL was formalised with an MOU signing between Mr Zee Kin Yeong (CE, SAL) and A/Prof Li Pheow Yeo (ED, SUSS-IAL). Charting the Course of Good Data Governance in the Age of Mass Data Sharing The session aims at exploring data governance concerns at the nexus of public and private administration, particularly in Southeast Asian smart cities where digital dependence fosters the accumulation, access, management, and proliferation of mass data. The discussion sheds light on the conventional ways of data ownership and addresses the challenges posed by rapidly changing technological landscape including the advent use of Artificial intelligence. By focusing on the potential marginalisation of citizens and residents in data control, the session seeks to highlight the shortcomings of existing governance frameworks in safeguarding data privacy and equity. It aims to foster reflection on the need for innovative approaches to governance that can effectively navigate the complexities of data governance in smart cities, ensuring fair and inclusive outcomes amidst rapid technological advancement.

Becoming an M&A lawyer was an unexpected turn for Ms Shirin Tang, who began her career as a litigator.
