Comece ouvindo ativamente todas as partes envolvidas. 1. Listen actively: Let everyone share their ideas without being cut off. This shows respect and helps you understand their concerns. 2. Seek understanding: Ask "why" questions to get to the root of each team member's opinion. What are their worries? What are they hoping to achieve? 3. Acknowledge feelings: Show everyone you hear them by summarizing their points. This builds trust within the team.

Handling conflicts arising from differing opinions on the team's direction begins with active listening. In the construction industry, this means creating a space where every team member feels heard and valued. By attentively listening to all viewpoints, you can understand the root causes of the conflict and the concerns behind each perspective. This approach not only fosters respect and trust but also provides a comprehensive understanding that is crucial for making informed decisions that benefit the project and the team as a whole.

Begin by focusing on understanding both parties' perspective. Explore their unmet expectations and what led to the misunderstanding. Allow each party to explain in their own words, and listen actively. Mirroring their words back to them signals your attentive listening. During this stage, avoid taking their words personally and give them the benefit of the doubt.

I always encourage asking each person three key questions: What do they really want the other person to know, feel is important, and do? Typically conflict stems from unclear expectations or misaligned values/priorities and effective conscious dialogue can resolve it. Make sure both parties are in a coherent balanced state before engaging in a discussion.

Handling conflicts arising from differing opinions on the team's direction involves assessing the situation fairly. In the construction industry, it's important to evaluate all viewpoints objectively, considering the merits of each perspective without bias. Gather relevant information and facts to understand the potential impact of each opinion on the project's success. Ensure that your assessment is transparent and based on clear criteria. By evaluating the situation fairly, you demonstrate impartiality and build trust among team members, leading to more balanced and effective decision-making.

Regardless of the topic, every person believes that what their doing is right. By promoting dialogue, you’re inviting people to look beyond their own viewpoint and subsequently creating a empathetic and truly inclusive workplace. Diversity in the workplace is essential, but it is only effective if members feel that their perspectives are valued.

Handling conflicts arising from differing opinions on the team's direction involves finding common ground. In the construction industry, identify shared goals and values among team members to build a foundation for agreement. Highlight the common objectives everyone is working towards and emphasize the benefits of collaboration. Facilitate discussions that focus on areas of agreement before addressing differences.

After considering all perspectives and finding common ground, it's time to make a decision. As a leader, you may need to make the tough call, especially when consensus is not possible. Clearly communicate the rationale behind the decision and how it benefits the team's direction. A decisive yet empathetic approach can help minimize dissatisfaction and maintain team unity.

Hear everyone but decision right should remain with you. The decision should be based on what you hear from both the sides and the underlying objectives.

I find before mediating or facilitating, it is important to affirm the relationship. When dealing with conflict, it’s crucial to start by addressing the positive aspects. Reaffirm common ground and use sincere words of praise before getting into the issue itself. Communicate respect. For example, express that you value the relationship more than avoiding the discomfort of confronting hurt feelings. Affirming the relationship is essential, and it should be repeated throughout the process.

Recognising that ‘challenge’ is different from ‘conflict’. Challenge can be a form of loyalty, particularly when offered by those genuinely seeking to improve the situation. But it’s important to understand that for challenge to be effective, it is a two-way process, both in respect of the manner in which it is offered and by which it is received. We often think about challenge from the perspective of the person giving it (i.e., how should I challenge?). Turn this on its head and consider how you respond to those challenging you? - Don’t take it personally. Often the challenge is about the problem, not you. - Encourage and thank those who are courageous enough to challenge. - Seek real diversity of thought. - Respond respectfully.
