Stage Preview

Life is good in Indre—an authentic, unspoiled spot in the heart of France. Throughout Monday, 27 May, the qualities that make Indre such a wonderful place will be broadcast to the world as the Olympic torch visits the department. The torch will begin its route in Le Blanc, a quaint little town split by the River Creuse. It will then connect Cuzion to Baraize over the brand-new Himalayan footbridge that crosses the river. After that it will head to La Châtre, known for the George Sand Museum established in the twilight of the 19th century. It will then proceed to Buzançais, known as the "Town of Seven Bridges", and Issoudun, with its historic town centre and White Tower, the latter of which was built by Richard the Lionheart in 1195. Next up, Valençay will host one of the highlights of the day as the torch will explore the courtyard and gardens of the Château de Valençay, a wonder of the Renaissance. Finally, Châteauroux will bring the curtain down on the Olympic torch's visit to Indre.

Celebrations in Châteauroux

Nestled in the heart of the Champagne Berrichonne, Châteauroux is a city with a medieval flair; the Olympic torch will call attention to its thousand-year history and many attractions as it winds down its tour of the Indre department, starting with a visit to the Notre-Dame Abbey in Déols, built in the 16th century and a key point on the Way of St James. It will continue its promenade around the city centre, not far from the Château Raoul, whose silhouette has loomed large over Châteauroux since the 10th century. The torch will blaze past Notre-Dame Church, a harmonious blend of Romanesque and Byzantine architecture that stands out for its clock tower, which stands at an incredible 50 metres! The evening will draw to a close in the Departmental Sports Hub. This 7.5-hectare multidisciplinary complex, popular among clubs and schools, will be the ideal venue to celebrate sport and Olympic values.
