Debut Year (2013)[edit]
Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu started his professional League of Legends career as an ADC for MVP Blue in February 2013. He shared the AD Carry position with imp on the then 10 man roster of MVP. They played in only one tournament (OGN Club Masters) where they finished first, before being split into two teams, MVP Blue and MVP Ozone. Deft would go on to play for MVP Blue alongside the likes of Easyhoon.
A Return to DRX and Worlds Victory (2022)[edit]
Ahead of the 2022 season. It was announced that Deft made his return to DRX alongside Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo and Cho "BeryL" Geon-hee. Also re-uniting with his former DRX teammate Hong "Pyosik" Chang-hyeon. [1]
Despite the lackluster results in Spring and Summer, DRX still qualified for the Regional Finals as the last team. Battling it out in two best-of-five series in the lower bracket, DRX would manage to beat KT Rolster and SANDBOX Gaming 3-2 to gain the final slot at worlds to represent the LCK in the Play-In Stage.
During the Play-Ins, DRX went on to have a flawless group stage as they didn't drop a single game, meaning they qualified directly into the main event's group stage. In here they found tougher competition, but ultimately came out on top as they defeated Rogue in the tiebreaker for the first seed. Following the Knockout Stage, they were put up against the LPL's EDward Gaming. The series initially saw the team falling behind 0-2, however they were able to pull off the reverse sweep to keep their tournament run alive. Deft had now also reached his second semi-finals at Worlds, which he previously had only achieved 8 years prior. After claiming a victory over Gen.G Esports in the Semifinals, Deft had now also entered his first ever worlds Finals. In the finals, he would meet fellow League of Legends veteran Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok in T1, both looking for the Worlds Title.
"Those two main combatants, Faker (real name: Lee Sang-hyeok) and Deft (Kim Hyuk-kyu), were so central to the Worlds Final narrative a year ago that when DRX forced a decisive fifth game in a best-of-five match, it had the air of a duel at dawn.
“Faker and Deft combined have played more than 2,000 games, and it’s going to come down to one!” a shoutcaster known as Caedrel bellowed at the top of his lungs during the broadcast. “The GOAT versus the alpaca!” his co-caster Kobe added, raising the stakes by a few decibels.
The backstory stretches even further. Faker and Deft were classmates, but hardly friends, at Mapo High School in South Korea. Even then, Faker’s talent towered above his rival’s. “I was first on the ladder. My nickname was ‘Mapo High School’s Fiery Fist’,” Faker once recounted. “I was about 100 on the ladder,” is Deft’s recollection. At an icy pre-Worlds shoot, a photographer tried to get the two high-profile combatants to stand closer together.

The Finals ended up going the full five games in a back-and-forth series. But ultimately DRX managed to come out on top in the final game. Deft had finaly won his first Worlds title. Which made him the oldest winner thus far at 26 years old.
A New Challenge With Dplus (2023)[edit]
Following the conclusion of the World Championship, a report came out where Deft announced that he would continue playing in the 2024 season, as he had postponed his military service enlistement to 2025. [3] Shortly after his reveal to not retire, it was announced that Deft parted was with Dplus, as he signed with KT Rolster for 2024. Rejoining the organization as their AD Carry where he formerly played for during the 2017-2018 seasons. [4][5]
