The World Out of Home Organization (WOO) has increased its coverage of the global OOH industry by signing up another 15 organizations. 6 of the new members are from the APAC region, 5 from Europe, 2 from the US, 1 from MENA and 1 from Africa. 💪 THE IMPACT OF PASSENGER NUMBERS AT JAPANESE STATIONS [SHIBUYA EDITION] 💪 JR Shibuya Station is a major terminal, with approximately 290,000 passengers boarding trains each day (※1). While it ranks 5th in terms of passenger numbers for JR East, the station is also heavily utilized by passengers of the Tokyu Corporation. Tokyu's Shibuya Station sees about 380,000 daily passengers on the Toyoko Line and 550,000 on the Den-en-toshi Line (※2). This makes Shibuya Station one of the busiest in Japan, and globally, it ranks 2nd in terms of total usage when combining figures from all lines. 💡 NOTE: JR East reports boardings, while Tokyu Corporation reports total entries and exits, so the total figure for Tokyu should be roughly doubled for comparison purposes 💡 ✨ KEY FEATURES ✨ 1️⃣ The most famous landmark in Shibuya is the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, where thousands of people cross from all directions without colliding, making it a popular photo spot for tourists. The area around the crossing is a hub for youth culture, with numerous shops, entertainment venues, and cultural attractions catering to young people. 2️⃣ Recently, Shibuya has been evolving to attract a broader demographic, with developments such as the Shibuya Scramble Square and the redevelopment of Miyashita Park (MIYASHITA PARK). These projects aim to make the area more appealing to various age groups. 3️⃣ Shibuya is also a leading center for urban development and is home to many prominent IT companies. Now, let's delve into the actual numbers to understand the scale of this impact. 📈 IMPRESSIVE FIGURES OF JR IKEBUKURO STATION 📈 JR Ikebukuro Station is a major terminal station, with approximately 450,000 passengers boarding trains each day (※1). Globally, it ranks 3rd after Shinjuku and Shibuya stations. However, in the JR East network alone, Ikebukuro ranks 2nd. Annually, the number of passengers using JR Ikebukuro Station totals about 164.25 million, comparable to Russia's population of 144 million, making it clear just how impactful this station is. ✨ KEY FEATURES ✨ 1️⃣ Ikebukuro is one of the most densely populated areas in Tokyo, alongside Shinjuku and Shibuya. The area surrounding Ikebukuro Station is a bustling commercial hub, featuring department stores, major electronics retailers, and attractions like an aquarium. 2️⃣ The east side of the station is home to a district rich in Japanese pop culture, offering a wide range of anime merchandise. Ikebukuro caters to everything from business to leisure, making it a microcosm of urban life. 3️⃣ Furthermore, Ikebukuro serves as a critical interchange for several other railway lines.
