It was my pleasure to be a part of the Workshop on Uttar Pradesh Urban Cooling Policy conducted by Department of Housing and Urban Planning, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in collaboration with NRDC India and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow on 19 June 2024. The #heatstresses that we face each summer are only increasing every year. It becomes imperative that escalated and implementable #actionplans are formulated to focus on #cooling our cities. These heat stresses are #humaninduced and the construction sector has played a prominent role to contribute to this. Our cities have become hot boxes due to current development practices. We need to adopt sustainable #urbancooling strategies that prioritize environmental consciousness and long-term #resilience. This includes integrating green spaces and urban forests, promoting cool roofs and green roofs, enhancing natural ventilation in buildings, and using reflective materials in urban infrastructure. Collaboration between government bodies, academia, industry, and community stakeholders is crucial for the successful implementation of these strategies to ensure cooler and more livable cities for all residents. #coolingplan #heatstressmitigation #climateaction
