The panel discussed #sustainability practices and technological #innovations that enhance #agricultural ecosystems, conserve resources and boost farmers' incomes leading to healthier communities and long-term environmental benefits.

TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute is organising the #photoexhibition titled "Coal Dependence: Lives in an Extractive Economy," curated as a part of the "#JustTransition: Understanding and the Implications of Moving Away from #Coal" project supported by the MacArthur Foundation on July 25 and 26, 2024 at their Delhi Headquarters. This exhibition, curated by Dr Jayanta mitra, aims to shed light on the lives of communities that are intricately connected to the #coaleconomy, which is central to the just #energytransition debate. Through a series of compelling #photographs, the #exhibition examined the everyday realities of individuals engaged in #selling, #extracting, and #transporting coal which happens in the absence of alternate lucrative means of income. These images poignantly highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by these #communities as we #transition towards #cleanerenergy sources, which inevitably entails moving away from carbon intensive #energysources. The photo exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, and graced by Mr Ajay Shankar and Mr Jiwesh Nandan, Distinguished Fellows at TERI. TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute successfully completed the 'Microplastic Monitoring Protocol Training Workshop II' for educators under the ongoing 'Project Ocean Matters: Safeguarding our Oceans' carried out in collaboration with @U.S. Consulate General, Chennai on July 17 & 25, 2024.   Approximately, 75 teachers from 60 schools attended the #onlineworkshop which #empowered them to become #mastertrainers to impart training in their respective schools. Ms Taru Mehta, Senior Fellow, TERI, provided an overview of the workshop structure. Ms Brindha Jayakanth, Public Engagement Specialist, US Consulate General Chennai, underscored the role of the project in #empoweringeducators to measure, monitor and mitigate issues related to #climatechange and #marinepollution in six coastal cities of India. Prof Alessandra Sutti and Mr Stuart Robottom from Deakin University facilitated the protocol training by drawing attention to the sampling guidelines and experiment process, followed by visualisation of the membrane filters and the data analysis. The nuances related to identification of #microplastics were also covered, followed by the documentation and sharing of experiment reports. Ms Monmi Barua, Fellow, and Dr Elroy Pereira, Ph.D. , Associate Fellow, TERI, explained the various recording formats and the steps that need to be followed for data uploading. Ms Saltanat Kazi, Fellow, TERI, presented the upcoming project activities and expectations from the teachers and addressed their clarifications. The workshop ended on a positive note where teachers pledged to monitor their water bodies to detect the presence of microplastics and amplify their findings in the schools and community for #positiveaction.  #SaveOceans #TeacherTraining #MarineScience #OceanLiteracy

🌬️🌳🍃🌱🏭 Vijaywada is one of the thirteen non-attainment cities listed under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) in the state of Andhra Pradesh. #Traffic is one the major contributor to #airpollution in Vijaywada. To reduce the local exposure to traffic emitted #airpollution, TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute and Artha Global are assisting city authorities to identify the Clean Air Zones (CAZ) and facilitating piloting of measures to reduce #trafficemission in the identified zones. This would be achieved through the site selection, identification of measures and development of implementation plan in consultation with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, #statetransport department, #commissionerpolice and Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board. The development of a detailed plan would focus on measures such as #pedestrianization, #cycletracks, #EVmobility, #airquality monitoring and #dustcontrol. Through this plan, the program seeks to prioritize solutions based on #emissionreduction to enhance #airquality in the study area. In this context, TERI and Artha Global engaged with key stakeholders and conducted a reconnaissance survey to identify preferred CAZ locations in the city. These meetings are pivotal in advancing the on-ground action to reduce local exposure to #airpollution by fostering #collaboration, gathering essential #datasupport, and finalizing strategic locations within Vijayawada.
