Today to celebrate World Health Day, we reflect on the vital role safe and efficient transport infrastructure plays in promoting public health and well-being. Towns, villages and cities across the country have become safer and more accessible for more sustainable modes of transport through improvements to the road network, the development of greenways and the provision of public transport. Watch the below video to see how TII provides benefits to communities. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dvZUAUDw Department of Transport World Health Organization #WorldHealthDay #SustainableTransport

Across roads, greenways, national cycle network, light rail and metro – we keep Ireland moving
About us
Transport Infrastructure Ireland's role as a state agency is to provide sustainable transport infrastructure and services, deliver a better quality of life, support economic growth, and respect the environment. Under the aegis of the Department of Transport, we work at both national and regional level, in partnership with Local Authorities regarding national roads and greenways, and the National Transport Authority (NTA) regarding light rail and metro. TII was established through a merger of the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) under the Roads Act 2015, and was set up to deliver and operate safe and efficient light rail and national road networks. In 2021, TII was delegated additional functions in relation to active travel. We are leading the development of an ambitions new National Cycle Network for Ireland on behalf of the Department of Transport. At TII we are building a more sustainable economy and a better quality of life for everyone. To learn more about our organisation and the valuable work that we do to keep people and goods moving safely and reliably every day, visit us at tii.ie.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) along with the National Transport Authority, Transdev Ireland and partners celebrated 20 years of Luas at St Stephen’s Green today. Luas is a high capacity, efficient, zero emission means of urban transport and has had a hugely positive impact on Dublin. Minster for Transport Eamon Ryan TD Department of Transport gave a speech on the impact of the Luas in its first 20 years and cut a Luas themed birthday cake alongside two of the first Luas tram drivers. It was great to see so many people turn out for the event which included the 20th anniversary Luas tram design, a children’s art competition and a performance by the Kingswood Community Group Choir. Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has published the Luas Benefits Report 2024 which highlights the positive contribution that Luas has made to living, working and socialising in Dublin in its first twenty years. 🚋 Luas has been a catalyst for creating a more sustainable, connected, and productive capital. It has redrawn the map of Dublin, transformed people’s lives, and improved the quality of life of those it serves. In the last twenty years over, 10,000 jobs new to the Irish economy have been located along the Luas corridors. During this time, a total of 650 million passengers have travelled on Luas. In 2023, Luas carried over 48 million passengers and we’re set to welcome over 50 million passengers in 2024. Looking to the future, as part of the Luas 2050 vision, TII is helping to expand Luas through plans to progress and deliver lines to Finglas, Lucan, Poolbeg, and Bray as well as connecting Luas to MetroLink offering a link to Dublin Airport. In partnership with the NTA, TII is developing a preferred route for Luas in Cork, the first Luas line outside of the Greater Dublin Area. Luas is at the heart of a long-term transport network for our cities. TII, along with our partners, is proud to be making this happen. Our next speaker is Paolo Carbone, Head of Public Transport Capital Programme at Transport Infrastructure Ireland, who gives an overview of the 20 years of the Luas in Dublin. He asserts that Luas connects Dublin’s workforce to its major employment centres and supports the attraction of new jobs in a context where, since 2011, near 20% of new homes built in South Dublin County Council have been in the catchment area of stops on the Citywest Extension, twice the average rate of growth across the local authority area more widely. He says that the Luas is a foundation for the MetroLink project, paraphrasing JFK "not because it is easy but because it is hard" and "because it is the right thing to do". MetroLink is a key scheme in the GDA’ transport strategy to make Dublin a liveable city – more than an airport rail. To deliver, he says there is a need for a relevant transport study and policy document. Paolo C. #TransportIreland

The 14th volume of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Heritage Series, ‘Places for the Living, Places for the Dead,’ was launched last night in the New Ross Library, County Wexford. This book was written by James Eogan, who is a Senior Archaeologist at TII, around his work on the N25 New Ross Bypass. James was joined at the launch by TII CEO Peter Walsh, Cllr. Anthony Connick, Patricia Long from Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd, and Ian Doyle from The Heritage Council, with the event being chaired by Eamonn Hoare of Wexford County Council. The N25 New Ross Bypass and the Rose Kennedy Fitzgerald Bridge were opened for operation in 2020. During the design phase, substantial archaeological work was conducted by TII and partners. This led to the discovery of almost 40 previously undocumented archaeological sites along the route of the bypass in counties Kilkenny and Wexford. This book provides an overview of the archaeology of this region and shows how the remains uncovered on the bypass route deepen our understanding of human activity in the lower Barrow Valley over almost nine millennia. Consideration of archaeology is fully integrated into TII's transport planning process for national roads, light rail, Greenways and metro. TII is very proud of its archaeology work and will continue to support our teams as we expand our infrastructure network. ⛏⛏🥄🥄 The Heritage Council Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd - Red River Archaeology Group #TransportInfrastructureIreland #TIIHeritageSeries #Archaeology #WexfordCountyCouncil #NewRossBypass #NewRossMunicipalDistrict
