Findings are out! Following the opening of the N22 Macroom bypass:
- Traffic is down 40%, and medium and heavy goods vehicles down 60%
- Footfall is up >25% and visitors are reporting that they are visiting more often – Macroom without heavy traffic is now a more pleasant place to visit and spend time
- 12 business owners reported positive or very positive impacts from the bypass on their business, 12 reported no impact, and only one negatively impacted - Businesses are overall happy with removal of the traffic
- More children are walking to school
- Noise levels are substantially down
Loads more in the report! We’ve spent the past two+ years collecting and analysing a vast set of pre-bypass and post-bypass opening data, with the help of Cork County Council. Importantly, we also found no notable increase in cycling, and indications of some induced local traffic into the town – both things to monitor going forward.
