Following a lifetime spent battling #CysticFibrosis, 59-year-old Justin G. was critically ill when a double-lung transplant at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in March 2017 saved his life. He shared his incredible story with us ❤️ - from his Mom's determination to see him 'live to get his pension', to battling chronic breathlessness when your lung function drops to 12%, the wonderful expertise of the Mater Transplant team and adjusting to life post-transplant. We've been busy bees behind the scenes at what we're calling 'Marilyn HQ', working hard on our brand-new, silver-screen themed fundraising event, Marilyn's Mater Paddle, supporting women's cancer care in the Mater Hospital. The gathering of Marilyn lookalikes is set to take place on Sunday, 4th August on Bray Promenade. Everyone who gets their ticket and fundraises will receive their own Paddle Pack with blonde bombshell wig, red heart-shaped glasses and will get a retro beach ball on the day. All our Marilyns need to do is bring their own swimsuit or swing dress and some red lippy on the day to complete the look. It's going to be fantastic fun, and all for an amazing cause. Pride Week at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital 🏳️🌈 Great work by the Team as always 😊

Winner! The Rock Wing, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, received the ‘Public Buildings and Infrastructure’ Award at the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Awards on Friday evening. The Rock Wing was delivered on time and on budget against the backdrop of the COVID-19 public health emergency, and provides 98 single-occupancy rooms for an additional 5000 patients annually. The rapid delivery, cost savings, and quality of the project was facilitated by using DfMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) and MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) techniques, as well as through our use of Building Information Modelling (BIM). Sensitively responding to its urban and historic surroundings, the Rock Wing navigates the intricacies of an inner-city site and the complexity of connecting to a live hospital over multiple levels. The internal environment balances the needs of diverse groups offering integrity, inclusivity, and comfort for patients, staff, and visitors. The awards ceremony, which took place in the National Gallery of Ireland, was attended by Scott Tallon Walker Architects' Managing Director, Ronan Phelan, Project Director Paul Connolly, and members of the Rock Wing design team. We thank the RIAI for this recognition of the excellence achieved at the Rock Wing by our design team, working closely with the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
