About us

The Mater Hospital Foundation was established in 1985 as the official fundraising body of The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and is now the largest adult hospital Foundation in Ireland. It exists to inspire and enable financial support from the community for exceptional patient care at The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. Funds raised through the Mater Foundation are used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, enhance facilities and develop special programmes to help the hospital remain at the forefront of first class medical care while at the same time investing in medical research to help determine the future of medicine tomorrow. We achieve our goals by working with the community and the hospital to enable change and enhance patient care by providing grants and funding to Wards, Departments and Services.

  • 🧡 Community Fundraising Heroes 🧡 We always love having the opportunity to highlight our amazing community fundraisers – and today we want to give a special shout out to Chloe Massey. In March, Chloe suffered a freak fall causing her to shatter a C4 vertebrae in her neck. She was cared for by the wonderful team at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital’s Spinal Unit who continue to support her recovery. Thankfully Chloe was incredibly lucky and was able to walk out of the Spinal Unit. As a way of paying tribute to the Mater team for their excellent care, and to try help those who may be going through a similar experience, she rallied family and friends to organise a fundraising challenge with the support of Farmyard Crossfit in Bunclody, Co. Wexford. For 24 hours, participants kept all machines – Rowers, Bikes, SkiERGS, etc. – active. A huge physical effort! Incredible local support has meant that Chloe and her crew have already raised in excess of €7,000 and you can still support them here if you wish - https://lnkd.in/egr9kUpe Here at the Mater Hospital Foundation, we’re so grateful to everyone who participated, donated and supported Chloe’s fundraiser in any way ❤. And, of course, we’re incredibly grateful to Chloe – another amazing community fundraising hero who’s efforts will continue to help others. #communityfundraiser #fundraisingchallenge #crossfit #spinalinjury

  • ❤️ Meaghers Pharmacy continues vital partnership with Mater's Intensive Care Nursing Team. Last year the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital's inspirational Intensive Care Nursing team wanted to deliver extra comfort to some of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients by providing small essential products that can make a big difference to their care. Through working with the Mater Hospital Foundation, Meagher's Pharmacy Group stepped in and generously offered to support the project by providing these care packs. This year Meaghers will continue that support. As Laura Ahern, Registered Critical Care ANP, at the Mater explains: “Meaghers contributions will significantly impact the journey of critically ill patients in our hospital. As you know, our patients will often arrive to intensive care extremely unwell, sometimes from other parts of the country and may not have brought any toiletries with them. Other patients can end up spending months in our department on a ventilator and benefit from some extra personal care. The donations from Meaghers allow our nurses to provide exceptional care and provide a meaningful impact to our most vulnerable patients in the hospital. “I also want to thank Meagher's Pharmacy for their kindness and commitment to our ICU department especially since Covid 19. We deeply appreciate your generosity.” A huge thank you to Meaghers for their continued support and we’re delighted to see it deliver real impact to patient care for our ICU Nursing team. #patientcare #ICU #intensivecare #partnerships #thankyou

📣 Patient Story - Mary Golden Mary was just 31 when a pain in her chest lead to a diagnosis that would turn her world upside down. 🎗 “Honestly, I think that was the darkest point. After all I’d be through and the #chemo I’d had, for it to come back was shattering. I could see it was shattering for the hospital staff treating me too." Mary's motto is ‘Here’s to life, not fear ❤️’. That’s why she's all in for the Marilyn’s Mater Paddle 💋 on Sunday, 4th Aug in Bray... and is dragging her husband Glenn, her friends, her brothers and brothers-in-law along too 😀. "Let’s have fun, let’s celebrate and we can do it while raising funds for Women’s Cancer Care at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. It’s my world, I’m going to enjoy it… cancer is just living in it.”🧡 Marilyn's Mater Paddle Tickets - https://lnkd.in/e9ms-YRC You can read Mary's full patient story here - https://lnkd.in/eHn2ggDB #Marilyn #Patientstories #communityfundraiser Mater Hospital Foundation

❤️ Community Fundraising Heroes ❤️ It’s one of our greatest pleasures when we get a visit from some of our community #FundraisingHeroes. So, it was wonderful to welcome Josephine Fleming and family to our Community Hub in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital a couple of weeks back to present a fundraising cheque in memory of her son Mark. Mark was 24 when he passed away on April 21st, 2014. He just went to sleep and never woke up. Since Mark’s passing Josephine, her family and Mark’s friends have been regular supporters of the Mater Hospital Foundation’s work in the area of SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic/Adult Death Syndrome) and the Family Heart Screening Clinic. On Mark’s 10th anniversary, earlier this year, two of his friends – Ciaran Sheehan and Alex Parkinson – helped set up an event in his memory. As Mark adored cars, they organised a ‘Car and Coffee Meet’, full of old school modified cars, plus they were joined by the Bumblebee 1000 who brought 40 ‘super cars’ along 🚗. It was a fantastic turn out and a fantastic day. We’re so grateful for the amazing support we receive from community fundraisers such as Josephine and her family, they are the reason we can achieve so much for patients and families. 🧡 Mark’s Mam, Josephine, was joined by her sister Catherine, brother Denis and daughter Ashley for the cheque presentation with Angi from our Community and Events team. #communityfundraiser #carsandcoffee #materhospital

As a proud GAA Charity Partner, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to be in Croke Park this Saturday for the All-Ireland Football 🏐 Quarter Finals to highlight the work of the Mater Hospital Foundation. Dubs Legend, Michael Darragh Macauley, will be there on our behalf talking about the wonderful care the Mater has provided to his sister, who’s recently undergone a lung transplant at the hospital. He’ll also be highlighting how, without the Foundation and the people who support it, the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital team simply couldn't provide the same level of care. In addition, we’ll get the chance to play this little video on the big screen which emphasises how the Mater has always cared for patients, players, fans and families 🧡. Wishing Armagh, Roscommon, Dublin and Galway the very best of luck for what’s sure to be a cracking evening of football 🏐. If you want your own day out at Croke Park this year, then don’t forget you can sign up to take part in our Croke Park Abseil 🧗♀️ on the 13th September - https://lnkd.in/ePPy3Kuv #CrokePark #CharityPartnerships #Abseiling #GAABelong #gaelicfootball John Dwyer

📣 Patient Story - Justin G. Following a lifetime spent battling #CysticFibrosis, 59-year-old Justin G. was critically ill when a double-lung transplant at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in March 2017 saved his life. He shared his incredible story with us ❤️ - from his Mom's determination to see him 'live to get his pension', to battling chronic breathlessness when your lung function drops to 12%, the wonderful expertise of the Mater Transplant team and adjusting to life post-transplant. Forever grateful to his donor, Justin G. is focused on protecting their ‘gift’ and leading a full life. #lungtransplant You can read his story here: https://lnkd.in/eNdk3VEC #patientstory #patientcare #shareyourwishes Mater Hospital Foundation
