🌊 Have you done your part to protect our coastal and marine ecosystems? The spirit of World Environment Day continues. Under the ASEAN German portfolio cooperation, the GIZ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect Marine Environment and Coral Reefs (3RproMar) project, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan) and the Office of Environment and Forestry of Manado City (DLHK Manado), organised a Coastal Clean-Up in Manado City on June 12, 2024. Over 200 participants, including school children, participated at Karang Ria Beach and collected an impressive 610.75 kg of waste. The event also saw the exciting launch of "Opa Can," the mascot for Manado's 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) campaign. "Opa Can," a wise grandfather figure from the Coelacanth fish species, symbolises the importance of recycling and environmental stewardship. With the support of the German Government (BMZ) through the 3RproMar project, GIZ fosters collaboration across stakeholders to protect our environment. How do people in Indonesia view Germany? How are Germany’s efforts in connection with this geopolitically key country in South-East Asia? How important is Germany for Indonesia today? Does Indonesia see Germany as a partner with whom it can pursue shared interests and values? These and similar questions were explored in a series of around 40 interviews with Indonesian personalities from the fields of business, politics, science, media, civil society, art, culture and the arts. Indonesia is changing in step with the rapidly changing world, and therefore elements of the partnerships are also changing. How much of the familiar and tried-and-tested stays relevant these days? 📢 Green Economy Expo (GEE) 2024: Paving the Way for Indonesia’s Green Economy Transformation and Sustainable Growth    🎯 The Indonesian government has embarked on a transformative journey towards a green economy to realize its Golden Vision 2045. Central to this effort are Low Carbon Development and Climate Resilience initiatives, which support Green Economic Transformation aimed at propelling Indonesia’s economic growth and achieving net zero emissions by 2060 or earlier. These green interventions promise a significant GDP growth rate of 6.22% from 2025 to 2045, setting a solid foundation for sustainable development.     🌱 Achieving these ambitious goals requires strong partnerships and meaningful participation from all sectors, fostering an innovation and technology ecosystem to accelerate the green economy and sustainable development. Therefore, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Republic of Indonesia has organized the "Green Economy Expo (GEE): Advancing Technology, Innovation, and Circularity" from July 3-5, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center.     🤝 “The German government is committed to supporting Indonesia's transition to a sustainable, green economy through financial and technical cooperation via KfW and GIZ. This includes assistance in infrastructure financing, waste management master plan development, policy implementation, and capacity strengthening. Our collaboration aims to foster innovation, investment, and job creation while promoting sustainability. The Green Economy Expo 2024 is an excellent platform for sharing ideas, forming new partnerships, and accelerating this transition” said Oliver Hoppe, Counsellor of Development Corporation, German Embassy in Jakarta during the opening.     ♻ This event aims to launch the Green Economic Development program, including the circular economy roadmap of 10Rs (refuse, rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose, recycle, and recover). Despite the digital progress that has been made in Indonesia, there are still gaps that need to be addressed. For example, ensuring that all consumer groups have their rights protected in digital transactions 👩💻 🙌 Kicking off today, July 15-19, 2024! This year's #DigiWeek shines a spotlight on "Creating a Responsible & Inclusive Digital Ecosystem." CASE Indonesia at the Green Economy Expo (GEE) 2024! 🌱💡 The Green Economy Expo (GEE) 2024, held from July 3-5 and organized by The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Republic of Indonesia, facilitated networking and development of a circular economy ecosystem in Indonesia. CASE Indonesia proudly contributed to the GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN Booth, showcasing our knowledge products, key messages, and Southeast Asia Information Platform for Energy Transition-SIPET. We also took the opportunity to promote the upcoming Indonesia Sustainable Week (#ISEW) 2024 and its precursor events, including the Youth Climate Conference (#YCC). The booth attracted over 300 visitors from diverse backgrounds, such as representatives from ministries, embassies, development partners, and university students. 🌍🌱 #ASEAN Member States are committed to tackling #climatechange, as outlined in their Paris Agreement NDCs. They recognise the importance of collaborative efforts, particularly the role of community-based climate actions in meeting climate goals. This is reflected in the ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC) Action Plan 2021-2025, which emphasises exchanging insights on local community-based #climateinitiatives. In support of the action plan, the Indonesian Government 🇮🇩, facilitated by GIZ ASEAN Climate Action Programme (CAP) Project, commissioned a study to analyse and document innovative community-based climate actions in ASEAN Member States and on July 3 2024, the project supported the Indonesian government in hosting a workshop that aimed to provide a collaborative space for ASEAN Member States to discuss the progress and findings of the study. 📊 The workshop, which followed the first workshop of ASEAN CBCA in Lombok in March 2024, focused on refining studies about community-based climate action in ASEAN countries. Participants discussed proposed strategies in priority sectors, capacity-building plans, monitoring and evaluation, and the potential role of Non-Party stakeholders in supporting these community-based climate action programs. 🤝                   The study itself aims to support the replication and strengthening of successful practices whilst fostering knowledge-based learning to implement community-based #climateaction. From this study, AMS will gain a deep understanding of good practices in community climate action and sound decision-making for sustainable climate action, ultimately improving AMS' ability to formulate robust National Adaptation Plans. 🌿💡 The project receives support from the German Government (BMZ) and the European Union under the #ASEANGerman portfolio on #climate #environment and #energy topics. 🇩🇪🇪🇺

🎯 The nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are pledges by countries to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement. These commitments include policies and measures aimed at meeting global climate targets. Indonesia is preparing its Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC) document, which is scheduled for submission in August 2024, ahead of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. 🌡 The SNDC will be implemented from January 1, 2031, to December 31, 2035, and aligns with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. It includes Indonesia's 2030 FOLU Net Sink target, additional sectors and sub-sectors, 2019 baseline emission levels, and commitments to strengthening climate adaptation, action, and reporting systems. 🌏 The International Climate Initiative (IKI) interface project in Indonesia (IKI Hub Indonesia), implemented by GIZ, has organized the IKI mini-roundtable exchange on June 24, 2024, in Jakarta. This event focused on the contributions of IKI projects in Indonesia to the formulation and implementation of Indonesia's NDC. 🗨 Attended by 42 participants, the exchange aimed to identify contributions to the NDC, facilitate comprehensive exchange and coordination among IKI project implementers, and ensure alignment to maximize the impact of IKI support for the Indonesian government’s NDC efforts. 🤝 Furthermore, by submitting a second NDC, Indonesia will reinforce its commitment to fulfilling its climate pledges.
