À propos
The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals. We look, too, at issues that directly affect the lives of ordinary people, like how much they pay in taxes and social security, and how much leisure time they can take. We compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age. Drawing on facts and real-life experience, we recommend policies designed to make the lives of ordinary people better. The common thread of our work is a shared commitment to market economies backed by democratic institutions and focused on the wellbeing of all citizens.

Even though primary school completion in Africa rose from 55% in 2000 to 75% in 2022, African children average only 5.1 effective learning years compared to 7.2 in Asia and 10.5 in high-income countries. Math and reading proficiency are also lower than in other regions, and many graduates lack essential technical, digital and soft skills. African countries need to invest in quality education and training programmes for youth to fuel productivity and development. The Climate Club is happy to announce that Co-Chair Germany will use the upcoming Global Matchmaking Platform hosted by UNIDO to offer support to emerging and developing countries that are Climate Club members and seeking technical assistance to include industrial decarbonisation in their new NDCs. This announcement underlines the importance of the new NDCs for sectoral decarbonisation. It marks a major step towards helping emerging markets and developing economies develop and implement sectoral roadmaps and make key investment decisions that will impact the trajectory of industrial emissions globally. Germany's support is funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and should be provided through an earmarked contribution to UNDP’s Climate Promise and the Partnership for Net Zero Industry Programme, managed by UNIDO, and could help pave the way for further support through the Global Matchmaking Platform in the future. In case of questions and to access this support, please contact the Global Matchmaking Platform team at UNIDO (secretariat@climate-club.org). Find out more: https://brnw.ch/21wL9xp

Out now: #AfricaDevelopment Dynamics 2024 By 2050, Africa's working-age population will nearly double, making up 85% of the global increase. Young Africans are becoming more educated, but they face a lack of quality jobs. Over 80% aim for high-skilled jobs, yet only 8% find them. Skill shortages in sectors like agrifood, renewable energy and mining hinder growth and investment. How can countries address these gaps to unlock the continent’s full potential? Find out in the new report: https://brnw.ch/21wL8va OECD Development African Union
