How can the #Greek regions of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace and the Peloponnese leverage their unique assets to attract talent, investments, and visitors while promoting sustainable economic growth? An OECD-OCDE delegation including Gwendaline Jossec, Maya Camacho and Vasiliki Poula spoke with more than 130 local, regional and national stakeholders to chart strategic pathways towards better attracting talent, investments and visitors to these two regions. In the #Peloponnese, stakeholders highlighted the region’s human capital challenges, particularly in attracting and retaining young talent with digital and ‘green’ skills to counter the effects of outmigration. In Eastern #Macedonia-Thrace, which also faces talent retention challenges, discussions emphasised the border status of the region and a pressing need for greater transport connectivity to unlock its potential as a crossroads between major maritime and land routes. During this fact-finding mission the delegation also had the pleasure of talking to the Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Mr Dimitrios Ptochos, and to the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Mr Christodoulos Topsidis, about strategic priorities in their region. These productive exchanges will inform OECD case studies with policy recommendations for inclusive and sustainable development in each region, to be published by the end of this year in Greek and English. 💻 Two weeks ago, we held the 4th meeting of the #OECD International SME and Entrepreneurship Policy Evaluation Discussion Network. 💡The network is a forum for policy makers and evaluators to exchange on the results of reliable #SME and #entrepreneurship policy evaluations and the implications for policy. 👩💻 Supported by the United Kingdom, the network meets quarterly to discuss various topics. Last week focused on evaluations of supports offered by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment to assist SME exporters. Angelina Cannizzaro, Deputy Director at the UK Department for Business and Trade, and chair of the network, said that “The UK Department for Business and Trade is pleased to be sponsoring the OECD evaluation discussion network so that the UK and other countries can learn from each other's evaluation work. A key focus for this group is to get at the heart of what works and what doesn’t through evaluation and share our insights on the policy and evaluation lessons from good-quality evaluations.” 🔎 Find out more about the network ➡ https://oe.cd/5BA
