The room for a solo traveler is excellent and clean. Breakfast is typical but satisfying for any budget priced accommodation just get there early before the fresh fruit is devoured by the impersonal ozzies and assorted backpackers. But forget them.

What impressed me is the staff and especially manager who go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. My regret is not remembering their names and I apologize.

I hope one day to again visit Seoul and Hotel DaeYoung.

Thank you so much for your good review. We apologize for this so late answer, because of Corona pandemic we couldn't run well. We've had the long time for domestic guests only. Now we are preparing to meet the world again. Again, thank you for your time to write this good review. We will prepare well to meet you again. Wish you good health with luck. Thank you so much!

The third hotel/hostel/guesthouse I've stayed in during my time in Seoul's Myeongdong area, and by far my favorite one so far. All were around the same price ($45-50 USD). The location is right next to Hoehyeon, but it's a 10 minute walk to Myeongdong (or one station if you'd prefer), providing a little more space and value. The room is much bigger than the places I stayed in Myeongdong, providing more relaxation and enjoyment when in the room. Comfortable bed, good Wifi, and large bathroom area also provides a better experience for me than the cramped bathrooms and tiny spaces in other spots. Friendly front desk team and allowed me to check in a little before the scheduled time since the room was ready and I had a lot of luggage. For those who are traveling heavy, it feels good to be able to open your suitcase in your room without having to move things around. Would absolutely stay here again and just wish the hotel wasn't already full for later this week otherwise I'd book again!

We stayed at this hotel for one night. The location is very convenient, staff were friendly and attentive. Price is reasonable and the room size is decent. The only issues were we found hair on the stool. The deco of the hotel is dated. We booked through Expedia and was assigned to a ground floor room with high and small windows and the room was dark. Not recommend for longer stay but doable for shorter stay and if you only need a place to sleep.

Excellent quality for reasonable price. The rooms are small, very clean, with everything you need in travel. Comfortable bed. Excellent location in the city center, walking distance to Insadong, Mendong and palaces.
No breakfast in the hotel, but there are a lot of places nearby, where you can eat

Small and cozy hotel with an excellent location in Seoul (really close to bus/metro station) . The rooms are very small but clean with everything you will need. Housekeeping is daily which is a big plus. Really friendly staff as well.

My husband and I stayed in Hotel DaeYoung this past week. Here is a breakdown of my thoughts:

- Price = Paid just under $200 USD for four days and three nights, which is pretty cost efficient if you are on a budget.

- Directions = Situated in the Namdaemun area, the hotel is about a five minute walk from Hoehyeon (Namdaemun Market) Station Exit 1. When emerging from Exit 1, look for a cafe called Yogerpresso towards your right. Walk past Yogerpresso and a restaurant called Pomato. Between CU convenience store and Mido Hotel is an alleyway up a slightly sloped hill. Another landmark to look out for is the big Hotel Rex right across this alley. Enter the alley and you will see DaeYoung on your right. Note that vehicles cannot access the alley, so you will have to walk, but it's not that far.

- Location = As mentioned earlier, the hotel is very close to Hoehyeon Station, which is right between Seoul Station and Myeongdong Station. There's the CU convenience store at the entrance to the alleyway, but there's also a 7-11 further off if you're looking for a more familiar brand (the 7-11 is along a row of coffee shops, so that's a plus!). Both Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong are within 5-10 minutes walking distance away. The N Seoul Tower cable car station is about a 15 minute walk away. You can even see N Seoul Tower from the hotel!

- Check-in / check-out = Check-in time is at 2PM, but we were allowed to check-in a bit earlier since our room was already ready. Check-out is at noon. There is no late check-out, but if you would like to still explore without having to take your luggage with you, the staff graciously stores your luggage for you, even after you've checked out.

- Staff = Friendly front desk staff, especially the older gentleman who has the morning shift. He is very attentive, especially during breakfast (more on that later). They don't appear to speak a lot of English, but if you have Google translate on your phone and show them what you want to say in the translated Korean hangul, the language barrier is not a problem.

- Wifi = Guests have access to the hotel's wifi, which has strong signal and is quite fast.

- Room = The room my husband and I booked had one spacious bed; a side table; a narrow closet with a couple of hangers and a drawer that can be locked (the key to the drawer is attached to the room keycard holder); a small vanity area with a seat, mirror, and some amenities like tissues, toothpaste, a comb, etc.; a minifridge; and a flat screen TV. We really appreciated that the floor was heated since it was so cold outside! The room is slightly bigger than most hotel rooms in Japan, which was great, though some people may still complain about the size. The bathroom is an open space bathroom, so there is no partition between the shower. Thus, when you shower, the entire bathroom floor gets wet. This is standard in Korea, so don't freak out.

- Breakfast = Breakfast was included in our package. Don't expect a full-on buffet. The offerings are light and vary slightly: sliced fruits like oranges and pears, cherry tomatoes, cornflakes and milk, hard boiled eggs, steamed sweet potatoes, 3-4 different kinds of cup noodles, apple juice boxes, Yakult, coffee, tea, and 3-4 different kinds of bread. The older morning shift staff member is very helpful in getting guests settled, heating up water for their cup noodles, and directing guests to where they should leave their used plates and utensils. The dining area is a bit small, so if there are a lot of guests trying to eat, try not to linger around too long if you're already finished. I believe you are able to take some food to your room, as their are trays available, so that's also an option. If you'd like to save a bit more during your stay in Seoul, take advantage of the hotel's breakfast, which is available till around 10AM. My husband and I would eat a bit of the breakfast, head out for the day, and be hungry just in time to have an early lunch at wherever we decided to explore.

Overall, DaeYoung is a homey, no frills, budget-friendly hotel. If you are looking for a good place to stay while in Seoul, consider this place. I'd definitely not mind staying here again.

It’s one of the worst, if not, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

1. Secluded location
No doubt it is located in town, 5 minutes’ walk from Hoehyeon station, it is in a dark, narrow lane. Taxi can only stop at the entrance of the of the lane. I had to lug my luggage up the lane to the hotel. When I returned to the hotel at 10.30pm, there were drunkards walking past the lane. Definitely unsafe for females and even males.

2. Far from bus stop that has airport bus
The bus stop that has airport bus is 15 minutes’ walk from the hotel. I had to lug 2 pieces of luggage and walk 15 minutes at 4.30am to the bus stop.

3. Small hotel
The lobby is narrow, lift and room are very small too. Only 1 person and luggage can fit into the lift.

4. Wet bathroom
There is no curtain to separate the shower area and the wash basin. Thus, the entire bathroom is wet after a shower. There is a pair of bathroom slippers but still, nobody likes to step on wet floor while brushing teeth

5. Impractical power points
There were a few power points in the room but I could not charge my mobile phone. Luckily, I had a fully charged power bank that can last me for the 2 nights I put up at the hotel. The power points were casted on the wall. The Korean power points are round in shape while my international adapter is rectangular in shape. Hence, it could not fit into the power point. The hotel I stayed in previously has an extension cord on the table. This allowed me to plug in my international adapter.

6. Front line staff barely speak English
The front line staff (both day and night shift) barely speak any English. Both could not understand my questions.

7. Terrible breakfast
While I did not expect excellent breakfast with the rate I was paying, I was shocked at the way they handle fruits. Pears were cut and put in containers. This exposes the fruit to germs. Pears should be served whole. Bananas were also cut. In the end, they all turned black.

I will definitely not stay there again on my next visit to Seoul.

Super helpful staff. A bit hard to find, but easy access to the metro and to downtown. There is a corner store right in front that is very convenient. Has view of the Seoul tower. Room is on the small side, but it has everything you might need. Clean facility. Offers a basic, but good, breakfast

When I arrived at the downtown trainstation in Seoul, I caught a taxi to the hotel. Little did I know that the taxi driver wasn't familiar with this particular hotel and got very exasperated when he couldn't find it. I had the bright idea of suggesting that he and I ask the desk staff at a hotel he COULD find where Hotel Dae Young was. We did, and he almost lead us across the street to an ALLEY too narrow for the taxi to maneuver.
So first, know that thiis hotel's street presence is a smallish sign in an alley off a larger street with an unassuming front entrance. BUT once you get inside you are greeted with great enthusiasm and shown to a very comfortable room with air conditioning, queen bed, flat screen TV, hot water heater and tea small fridge with free bottled water and a newly renovated bathroom.
Breakfast is creative, depending on what the staff wants to buy, but it's always filling boiled eggs, fresh fruit, pretty good coffee or tea, toast, cereal and some kind of protein, plus juice.
This is one of the greatest shopping areas in the city, so bring an empty suitcase and have at it. The hotel staff will give directions and advice.
I especially wanted to take a day trip to the DMV, and the concierge easily arranged for this to happen with a very reasonably priced excersion.
I had excellent conversations with the man on the front desk where I learned that what was most important to North and South Koreans was that the two countries reunite so that families could reunite. And now, that actually has a chance of happening.

how far is it from icn airport in taxi
Answer from Hotel D
Seoul, South Korea
It will take about 80 minutes. If you take the subway of AREX(Airport Railroad EXpress), please transfer to line 4 at Seoul station. You need to take the subway going to Myeongdong direction. Please take off at Exit 1 of Hoehyeon station. When you exit from the station, turn right in the alley, and follow the left side of YogerPresso and Pomato. We are in the small alley between CU and Hotel MIDO which is in front of Hotel Rex. (If you face the Hotel Top or Kingkong, it's the wrong way. Please turn back.)

You can keep the luggage maximum 3 days for free. For the check-out day or short term, we store at the lobby. But, for long days, we have storage to keep. We have enough space to keep, so please don't worry. - Reservation manager at Hotel DaeYoung

Hi. Do you still have a washing service? How much does it cost! Also, do you rent WiFi eggs? If so, how much? Thanks
Answer from Hotel D
Seoul, South Korea
This area hasn't enough coin washing system. So, we provide the washing service at the cheap price. We recommend you to rent the egg at the airport. If you couldn't rent the egg, we can borrow you the sim card. Thank you.
