The Barceló Raval hotel garners praise for its rooftop bar, offering stunning 360-degree views, although guests have called out the small pool and premium bar pricing. Its prime location is a stone's throw from Las Ramblas, yet nighttime safety in the area has been a concern for some. While the hotel's rooms are lauded for their comfort and unique style, privacy and noise occasionally detract from the experience. Cleanliness is consistently commended, as is the hotel's vibrant atmosphere and attentive service, although opinions on value and service experiences do vary.

First impressions were excellent, the foyer of the hotel
Is modern and the reception desk were exceptionally welcoming at arrival. Due to pregnancy I was immediately offered an upgrade however I preferred a low floor room. I stayed on the first floor, there’s 3 lifts and easily accessible stairs if your not a fan of lifts like me. Our room was very modern and clean, bed comfy-ish, tea making facilities provided and stocked with a few essential toiletries. My only thought not relevant to me as I was with husband is that there is not much privacy, you can see the bath/shower from the bed and well the toilet booth isn’t very sound proof, would be really awkward if you were going with mates. On another note for British tourists, take your fire sticks, there’s two English channels and they often don’t work. Rooftop bar has excellent views, I climbed all 11 floors of stairs but view was worth it! Wi-fi is free and also bedroom safes are too, you get a mini bar but a bottle of coke from it will set you back €3- my only niggle was the breakfast, we paid €13 per person for breakfast each day and I found it a bit overpriced, I’m not a fussy eater but didn’t really enjoy the selection put out and my husband barely had anything, I don’t know if its just British tastebuds but I didn’t want cold egg and meats/cheeses for breakfast, in hindsight I wouldn’t of added on for b’fast, orange juice was banging though!

We stayed here for 4 nights in March. Amazing hotel, very quirky, very clean and very contemporary. Amazing views of Barcelona from the bedrooms. Rooms had fridge, kettle and toiletries supplied on arrival and were always replenished. Free safe in room too.

Beds and pillows were out of this world......felt like I was sleeping in clouds

Roof top terrace is beautiful but the pool is so so small, don’t think anyone ever goes in it....

My only worry was the walking through to Las Ramblas street from our hotel was a bit dodgy on certain alley ways and roads.

Centrally located in close proximity to La Rambla, metro stations, shops, restaurants, and most tourist attractions, all in easy walking distance. The interior of the hotel is quirky and fun, the room was modern and clean with an exceptionally large bed, spectacular 360 degree views of Barcelona from the roof top terrace. Friendly staff. Highly recommend this hotel.

We checked in no problem, the Spanish guy was actually very friendly. We were put in room 608 which was a tiny room that was tacky, horrible with a small plastic bathroom and the mirror was scratched and damaged (see photos). The air con did not work and after a fuss the receptionist (maybe from the Netherlands - he was nice) moved us to 610, this was slightly larger and had a bath with a working air con. No amenities in the bedrooms you needed to ask if you wanted soap, shower cap etc. Towels were dirty (see photos). The location is a bit dodgy but for us it was good as we hired bicycles and cycled everywhere and it was local to the centre. We were given one free drinks voucher to use in the tacky bar on the top floor. I ordered coconut water and the waiter (Spanish guy who was very pleasant) poured me a large glass. He proceeded to pour my daughter an appletizer and my daughter who spoke fluent Spanish heard the female bartender say to him to change it to a small glass. I asked him why she had said use a small glass and he shrugged his shoulders as if to say sorry I don't know. The restaurant was closed and we ordered a takeaway however the hotel staff refused to allow us to eat on the top floor so we ate in the empty restaurant, which was grim. The pool is not for swimming, it's like a hot tub and there are no sunbeds whatsoever, only high chairs for drinking at tables. We enjoyed the gym although the weights were all varied sizes and the toilet was broken in the gym it kept flushing which stopped the taps from working and I was unable to wash my hands each time I used a weight. No one helped with our suitcases on arrival or departure or showed us to our room. I didn't see any security whilst we were there. Would never stay here again, terrible hotel.

Response from Jacobo Alvarez, Director General at Barceló Raval
Responded 1 Aug 2020
Dear Ms. Hurley, Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your impressions regarding your recent stay at our Barceló Raval hotel. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and improve upon the service that we provide to our guests. We sincerely regret to read that your stay with us was not as expected, specially because we were following up on your stay whilst at the hotel as our main priority is that our guests feel comfortable with us and enjoy their holidays to the fullest. We would like to take the chance to apologies again for the technical problems in the room (the humidity stains on the bottom of the mirror), as we check every room carefully before assigning it to any arriving guest. In this occassion, we overlooked this detail. Please be assured that this is not a standard for us and we will revise the procedures to avoid this situations in the future. In regards to the towels, please be informed that when checking this room by the Housekeeping Manager the towels where found clean, we also took the chance to re-new all the towels when we re-opened the hotel to give the best quality to our guests. Please note that the towels are only changed during the stay when the guest leaves them on the hook in the bathroom or informs us orally. This is done for environmental reasons. We would also like to take the chance to clarify the aspects related to our reduction of services due to the current global pandemic. We understand that when travelling you don´t want to think about this issues and you´d just like to enjoy your time to the fullest, that is why we took the trouble for you and adapted our standards to meet the hygiene recommendations, and even exceeding them. For that, Barceló created the We Care About You program, in which we studied and evaluated every aspect of the hotel and re-thought all of our services. For instance, as you mention, we needed to take out the "non-essencial" amenities of the room, for a safer and deeper cleaning of the room. We always have them available and free of charge at the Front Office and are more than happy to bring them up to the rooms if requested. Another adjustment that we had to do is to close the restaurant for lunch and dinner. This was a very difficult decision for us as we are proud about our F&B offer, and hope we can re-open as soon as possible. As for the security, please be informed that we have 24h security at the hotel and cameras placed all over the building to guarantee a secure and safe stay to our guests. Dear Ms. Hurley, we hope your time in Barcelona was memorable as it is an amazing city with a lot of things to visit and experience and would like to thank you again for your time and understanding. With kind regards, Carlene García Deputy Manager

More suited for young people. Was spotlessly clean, beds very comfy, staff helpful and friendly.

Our only gripes was the entire outside of hotel is covered in a metal external covering that made a lot of noise in the wind, so on windy nights it wasn't quiet, not great for light sleepers, and the pool is not really a pool, it's more like a small water feature! The bar at the top does have beautiful views though.

The location was near to La Rambla but El Raval itself is quite deprived and seems rough, it was okay walking in pairs but I wouldn't recommend for lone travellers!

There are some superb restaurants/bars nearby, especially one called Marmalade is 3 mins walk and does incredible breakfasts that are cheaper than eating in the hotel.

Dear Guest, We greatly appreciate the time you spent to review your recent experience in our hotel, at Barceló we always strive to exceed guests' expectations and your comments will help our teams reaching that goal. We are very sorry about your problem with the noise of the metal cover that surrounds the hotel. It was because of the bad and irregular weather during your stay. We are not used to experience this kind of strong wind and it was an isolate occasion. Anyway we are very sorry to hear that from you and we hope you can experience our hotel in the future with a nice weather. Regarding our pool, we deeply regret your disappointment however we would like to take the opportunity to point out that the size is specified in our website but anyway we are going to check that the sizes are correctly exposed in all of the booking sites with the purpose of avoid any confussion to our future guests. According to the area, we are very sorry to hear that from you and also that it was not suitable to your plans. We would like to remark that the area is one of the most positive points for our guests of the hotel because we are located just in the center of the city. It it takes only 5 minutes walking to La Rambla and Boquería Market. We are 10 minutes walking to Gothic Quarter and less than 20 minutes from the Barceloneta Beach. Again, we genuinely appreciate the time you took out of your day to inform us of the inadequacies you experienced during your stay and we sincerely hope that you will allow us another opportunity to demonstrate our true level of hospitality and interest in serving you properly in the future. Kind regards, Barceló Raval Team

We stayed at this hotel for four nights our welcome at 2am was nice and receptive by Isac we highlighted that our room for three adults with a sofa bed wasn't suitable and it was addressed in a timely manner. Room service was fantastic the staff were all so friendly and really helpful. We were given information and maps of the city.
Breakfast was good quality and fresh with quite a large variety thank-you to the chef who was kind enough to make us fresh omelletes every morning.
The hotel is immaculatly clean with a really nice panoramic view of the city. It has a nice small sauna and gym in the basement with shower facilities. Thank you to all the staff for ensuring we had such a fantastic trip.

The room we had was nice and spacious with a really appealing layout. Bath is big enough for two, shower is waterfall style and very nice. Amazing views from the rooftop with a sporadically opening bar.
We also loved the location as we got a glimpse of the the local life without being too far away from the local attractions.
Staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to get electric scooters to explore the city delivered to the front desk.
Thoroughly recommended!

This hotel is situated in the lively Raval district which is not far from the Rambla and the waterfront.

There is a 360 degree rooftop terrace and bar offering great views of the city.

The rooms are of a contemporary style and I would suggest getting a room on the upper floors as the area can get busy during the weekend

The hotel staff were also very helpful and accommodating.

Wonderful unique Hotel!
I was very sceptical after I booked this hotel, to the point that I nearly cancelled my booking because of previous reviews that I read before my trip, but I'm so glad I didn't.
We arrived at the hotel around 1pm with the intention of dropping our bags off and coming back later to check in, however the lovely man on reception informed us that our rooms were ready and we could check in early for no extra cost. (Added bonus was a complimentary glass of Cava on arrival)
The rooms were so unique and had loads of quirky features that I've never had in a hotel before. One of our rooms was a triple. The beds were big and so comfortable. The shower is massive and was powerful, with plenty of hot water. People have previously complained about privacy, but we didn't find this a problem. The rooms are plenty big enough, so unless you want to watch your room mate showering, you can sit and look the other way.
The TV was great with plenty of English channels, including bb1 and itv 1. There is also tea/coffee making facilities in the room, so you can make a cuppa and watch the world go by out the windows.
We ate breakfast every morning in the restaurant which at 18 euro PP, isn't cheap, but there were plenty of hot and cold choices, so we had enough food to set us up for the day.
We also had one evening meal in the hotel. We had tapas, which was delightful and reasonably priced.
With regards to the area........ if you're from a quiet cotswold town like myself, it may be a little eye opening for you! In the day time we felt perfectly safe walking around, there were homeless people, however none of them bothered us and kept themselves to themselves (which is more than can be said for other parts of Barcelona) in the evening we always made sure that we were in the hotel by 10pm and we never had any problems. If you stick the the well lit main roads, it felt safe walking back from La Rambla. I think previous reviews about the area are unfair. Yes, it's not like walking around a cotswold town, but as a family group of 2 adults and 2 children we never felt threatened.
Lastly, the 360 roof terrace really is the best part of this hotel. The views from the top are really impressive, especially in the evening. The drinks are competitively price. A glass of wine was 6 euro and a coke/Fanta was 4 euro, so definitely not over priced for the location and atmosphere. We spent every evening up there and loved it.
Every staff member we encountered spoke wonderful English and were so friendly and helpful.
The gym and sauna were also a great added bonus for before we headed to the roof top bar.
I really can't recommend this hotel enough. I loved it and would definitely stay again if I was in Barcelona.

Very nice hotel, room was beautiful and very big and spacious , shower was great , bed was unbelievable comfortable and you were provided with a fridge and coffee machine which were all in working order. The hotel staff couldn’t have been any more helpful and the cleaners came every day and even when we didn’t need our room cleaned they still provided new towels. Can’t wait to visit again 😁
