The Risk-informed Early Action Partnership (REAP) aims to make 1 billion people safer from disaster by 2025.
Info
Launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019, REAP brings together an unprecedented range of stakeholders across the climate, humanitarian and development communities with the aim of making 1 billion people safer from disaster by 2025. We create a space in which partners and aligned organizations use our ambitious targets to drive a systemic shift towards acting earlier to reduce the impacts of disasters, mobilize commitments and inspire action. Our partners agree that only by working together across sectoral silos and involving those at risk, can global ability to act ahead of climate extremes and disasters be strengthened. REAP Secretariat is hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies.

Our REAP partner, GSMA recently released a report on Enhancing inclusion in mobile-enabled risk communications: Lessons from South Africa. This research focuses on how mobile-enabled risk communications about weather hazards can be more inclusive. Using South Africa as a case study, the research uses a human-centred design approach to assess the accessibility and effectiveness of current mobile risk communication methods among marginalised populations. ➡Access the report here for insights and recommendations for scaling early warnings that result in early action: https://lnkd.in/ekm4ahry #readnow #earlywarningearlyaction #ew4all #inclusivity

New REAP Paper Launch at the Understanding Risk Conference! We are happy to announce the launch of our latest paper, "The Roles of State and Non-State Actors in Early Warning and Early Action" presented at the Understanding Risk Conference this week and supported by Practical Action and Met Office. In an era of escalating climate crises, governments are increasingly challenged to protect their vulnerable populations. This paper, created by the REAP Early Warning Initiatives Working Group, addresses the question: "What are the roles of both state and non-state actors in early warning and early action?" 👉🏽 Eight Key Recommendations: ▪ Acknowledge diverse EWS capacities. ▪ Incorporate local stakeholders in EWS co-design. ▪ Establish clear, inclusive governance structures. ▪ Build trust within partnerships. ▪ Ensure sustainable EWS funding. ▪ Address political dimensions in fragile contexts. ▪ Link EWS to international processes. ▪ Implement MEAL frameworks in EWS. 🔗 Access the Full Paper and Executive Summary: ▪ Download the full paper: https://lnkd.in/dmtH_mDh ▪ Download the executive summary (below) & here: https://lnkd.in/dt7QVXSs #ClimateChange #EarlyWarningSystems #SustainableDevelopment #UnderstandingRisk #EWEA #MultiStakeholderPartnerships #DisasterRiskReduction #ClimateResilience

*NEW* Exploring Resilience in a Changing World: Insights from the World Risk Poll Report 🌍 The newly released Lloyd's Register Foundation World Risk Poll’s resilience report, "Resilience in a Changing World," sheds light on our global preparedness for future shocks. By surveying perceptions of risk across 142 countries, the report addresses critical questions about our collective ability to withstand disasters and conflicts. Notably, the most vulnerable populations—those over 50, the unemployed, and low-income households—consistently score lower on the Resilience Index. In our new blog, written by Gavin White, we explore whether disasters and conflict could be good for resilience➡https://lnkd.in/e8uxpTmj Access the full WRP report here➡https://lnkd.in/dWJga8u8 #WorldRiskPoll and #ResilienceIndex #DisasterPreparedness #ConflictAndResilience #FutureShocks #CommunityCohesion
